NetApp Announces First Shipments of FlashRay Systems

"first shipments of FlashRay" is an interesting statement. There are no support docs, either for operations OR for sales/SE on NetApp's website. Basically they've very carefully qualified who the first units are going to, and are supporting them and the sales cycle directly. This product is...

Questions about modding with a dremel.

It's a free country, but it would be stupid not to. Regardless of how careful you are, cutting disks especially will break and fly everywhere. I use a full-face shield while using my Dremel. Much more convenient since I also wear glasses. Like this one -...

Replacement parts for Coolermaster Cavalier 4?

My dear wife-to-be stepped on the front panel of my Coolermaster Cavalier 4 and snapped the two small plastic parts that hold the metal door in place.. so the door fell off. It's just a small plastic part on each side that is easily unscrewed. Does anyone know a source for replacement ones?

Dell computer transferred into new case?

For some time, Dell was known for using non-standard ATX PSUs, which had the right plugs, but different wirings. Real PITA. I think that one is new enough that it would be ok, but you should check yourself. The main thing that will bite you is the front-panel connectors. Random cases have...

    Case paint removal question

Buy some sandpaper or pay to get it sand-blasted. Hot water isn't going to do squat. As shipped from the factory, cases are often powder-coated, not painted, so paint-stripper may not work.

    Monitor mod (lots of pics)

Hmm did you ponder powering the LED's off the main power supply for the LCD? I'm sure it puts out the right voltage somewhere :-)

    internal hddvd reader?

Looks to me like a standard slim-optical-ide to 2.5 inch IDE adapter would fit fine, and for the faceplate, since Toshiba don't make 3.5 inch DVD drives, you might have to do some hunting, but finding one that fits probably wouldn't be too hard :-)

    Man electrocuted by PC

Here's the thing.. with an ATX system, outside of the PSU (and maybe some CCFL power supplies) everything inside your computer case is at low voltage, and really unlikely to kill you. My immediate thoughts would be that chinese PSU manufacturers make extra crap ones for the domestic market...

    internal hddvd reader?

According to this website - http://uneasysilence.com/archive/2006/11/8303/ - you can take the drive out of the HD-DVD unit and mount it internally.

Possible to hack iPhone to make it a Skype phone?

Looking through the leaked firmware, it looks like it's gonna be a pain to get homebrew to run on this thing. It's secured using public/private key signed binaries and data files.

    Apple Deceptive Practices

Most LCD's are actually 6-bit, not 8-bit. This has become an issue for Apple since they did a particularly bad job of hiding it on a lot of Macbook Pros. If Apple loses, you'll see a lot more previously 8-bit displays are now sold as 6-bit. Apple isn't the only one doing this, they're...
