Yes I modded the PSU cables, I just removed the ones I don't use, which is most of them.
TBH it doesn't work well at all, the 295x2 needs loads of space and extra case airflow to work properly, not to mention that with this set up like it is the CPU cooler effectiveness is reduced massively...
I think that cooler is seriously stretched on that CPU and clocks. Personally I wouldn't touch it for anything over a stock i3 or something but if it's all you can fit in then I guess that's that.
Well it's hard to to tell at such short notice, I literally don't have the time to do any proper testing at the minute, all I did was fire it up to check it all worked and installed the AMD drivers, but during all that temps looked ok.
CPU cooler is a Prolimatech Samuel 17 with another...
I've had fans in the bottom without any issues, except a bit of noise, I think being right up close to the bottom intake increases noise.
TBH I didn't see much improvement in any temps, so by all means experiment and see how it works out for you.
My only reservation is cooling both the GPU rad and the CPU heatsink, seeing as the radiator + fan requires approx 65mm of space, that doesn't leave much room for a CPU fan on a low profile cooler (I already have two to chose from).
The problem is that the 295x2 fan MUST be an exhaust because...
Funny, because I have that exact PSU in another build...
Someone has offered me a nearly new 295X2 at a good price, I'm willing to modify the PSU cables to help with the cable management if need be.
I think it's worth a go, at the very worst it doesn't work and I can just put it in the other...
Is it just me, but I'd rather use a deadly silent 140mm ATX PSU and have the mess of cables to deal with rather than put up with these pretty lame SFX PSU efforts and their dodgy fan performance.
Which is a problem if you want to run them off the CPU fan header, but I had mine on the sys fan header and they're perfectly controlable down to 500RPM via something like speedfan.
Thanks.
Unfortunately I'm restricted to 140mm fans that have 120mm mounts, I have another two 140mm fans here but with 140mm mounts only. Obviously unless stated the fans tested are 120mm.
The Apaches are decent fans, what surprises you, that they should be better or worse?
NB eloops are on...
I've done some CPU fan testing if anyone is interested in the results?
They aren't laboratory grade scientific but they're the best I could do and show some interesting comparisons. Unfortunately I was restricted to the collection of fans I own/had access to, tests were done with a Cryorig C1...
