Yes I modded the PSU cables, I just removed the ones I don't use, which is most of them.
TBH it doesn't work well at all, the 295x2 needs loads of space and extra case airflow to work properly, not to mention that with this set up like it is the CPU cooler effectiveness is reduced massively...
I think that cooler is seriously stretched on that CPU and clocks. Personally I wouldn't touch it for anything over a stock i3 or something but if it's all you can fit in then I guess that's that.
Well it's hard to to tell at such short notice, I literally don't have the time to do any proper testing at the minute, all I did was fire it up to check it all worked and installed the AMD drivers, but during all that temps looked ok.
CPU cooler is a Prolimatech Samuel 17 with another...
I've had fans in the bottom without any issues, except a bit of noise, I think being right up close to the bottom intake increases noise.
TBH I didn't see much improvement in any temps, so by all means experiment and see how it works out for you.
My only reservation is cooling both the GPU rad and the CPU heatsink, seeing as the radiator + fan requires approx 65mm of space, that doesn't leave much room for a CPU fan on a low profile cooler (I already have two to chose from).
The problem is that the 295x2 fan MUST be an exhaust because...
Funny, because I have that exact PSU in another build...
Someone has offered me a nearly new 295X2 at a good price, I'm willing to modify the PSU cables to help with the cable management if need be.
I think it's worth a go, at the very worst it doesn't work and I can just put it in the other...
Is it just me, but I'd rather use a deadly silent 140mm ATX PSU and have the mess of cables to deal with rather than put up with these pretty lame SFX PSU efforts and their dodgy fan performance.
Which is a problem if you want to run them off the CPU fan header, but I had mine on the sys fan header and they're perfectly controlable down to 500RPM via something like speedfan.
Thanks.
Unfortunately I'm restricted to 140mm fans that have 120mm mounts, I have another two 140mm fans here but with 140mm mounts only. Obviously unless stated the fans tested are 120mm.
The Apaches are decent fans, what surprises you, that they should be better or worse?
NB eloops are on...
I've done some CPU fan testing if anyone is interested in the results?
They aren't laboratory grade scientific but they're the best I could do and show some interesting comparisons. Unfortunately I was restricted to the collection of fans I own/had access to, tests were done with a Cryorig C1...
Just finished off some CPU fan testing in my M1, if anyone is interested I could post up some results? If it's not already been done, that is, stuff reading every page to check!!
It's really not a massive job to have a bracket made to support all the asetek based AIOs.
Fractal's Kelvin series also has a square pump of dimensions 69 x 69 x 40, the seidon is 62 x 62 x 36 so could be similar mounting holes.
I admire the ingenuity of mounting the rads outside the case, but once people go down this route I always wonder why not just go for a bigger case in the first place?
For me the challenge of an SFF build is fitting it all into a tiny space, if you start bolting things to the outside then...
Good luck with that Liquid Ultra, no matter how many times I applied it (exactly as per their video and exactly how they described it) it didn't work for me, temps just kept going crazy under load. I gave up and went back to IC Diamond and the typical 'line across the die' method saw temps drop...
Nice job!
But is watercooling the 750ti necessary? Mine is the passively cooled version and even overclocked to 1385mhz it barely breaks 52c degrees, and of course completely silent.
Thanks, I've been impressed with how much performance it has for such an entry level card, I'm not a 100fps+ first person shooter guy, but it does pretty well at most things at 1920x1200, with high settings 40-60+fps is no sweat for it so long as you keep the AA low or off.
Plus with the...
Not an uber build as I don't have the disposable income to throw at it, I've just migrated over my current system. Will probably upgrade over the coming 12 months but TBH this still does most of what I need.
The bits waiting to go in bit of a black and white theme going on:
99%...
I have a C1 and I would only class the stock fan as adequate, when my M1 comes I will be swapping the fan for a better 25mm fan so can test it better. I also have a Prolimatech slim vortex and that wasn't very good either, far too noisy when pulling in air through a case vent.
I think most...
I'm thinking of using this board in my Ncase M1 when it arrives, any idea if my Cryorig C1 will fit without any overhang? My current Z77 board has the socket placed right over next to the PCIe slot so it sits over the whole board very nicely.
Thanks for the info.
I just need to figure out which motherboards my C1 will fit on, Cryorig's compatibility list is rubbish, I think I'll just need to eyeball it and take a guess.
My M1 was due to be despatched on the 4th but I haven't heard anything, not to worry.
In the mean time I'm wondering what Z97 board to use, I want to re-use my Cryorig C1 from my current build, was thinking of going with the Z97I-Plus as I'd also like PCIe M.2 support as well.
Any ideas...
