A large screen for a PC VDU is perfectly fine, though i will admit that i think you sit rather close, specialy for a 50" screen.
I run a 42" screen and sit roughly 6 foot away from it. Even then find the PPI Low, i cant wait to finaly upgrade to 4k or 5k at the same size.

IMO u should wait. Any1 thinking of changing/upgrading their VDU now should just sit it out and wait for OLED to pick up. LCD is crap, be it TN, VA, or IPS.. none of the current displays out are worth their price tag imo.
4-5 years ago i was coming from a 17" Trinitron CRT to a 37" samsung LCD.
I honestly cant remember the model but it was 4-5 years ago so it wasnt as good as current LCD's are.
That only lasted about 2 months, 1 of which was spent trying to 'fix' it when infact it was just the inate crap...

I've been on the look out for a new VDU to replace my ~4 year old Plasma for over a year now but nothing iv seen cuts the mustard so to speak.
Basic specs for somthing i would be willing to buy would be as follows.

Iv been on the look out for a new VDU for the last year or so and i straight up refuse to touch LCD. As such my desired specifications has only had one change in recent months, that being the aspect ration from 16:9 to 21:9 and thus the resolution from 4k to 5k.
