I am using my onboard intel raid controller. I have an Asus P5Q. I checked the manual and it did not state if I can expand or not. Do you know if that motherboard can?
I need a minimum of 4 hard drives to setup for a raid 5 right? Can I add a 5th hard drive or more in the future to the same raid setup? or Do I need to reconfigure the raid setup when adding new hard drives?
Yes I will be using an intel onboard raid for this setup. My motherboard is an Asus P5Q.
So the setup I mentioned above would be a good choice?
1x 120gb WD 10,000 RPM (Install Win 7 Pro)
4x 1TB WD 7200 RPM (Raid 5 setup)
Correct me if I'm wrong. In order to setup raid 5 I would have to install the OS on a seperate volume? Do I need a 5th hard drive to insatll the windows OS ?
1x 120gb WD 10,000 rpm hardrive
4x 1tb WD 7200 rpm - setup as raid 5
can the above setup be done?
I think I should just reformat and install Windows Home server. It seems to bee the most cost efficient way to do for now. If I add 4 1tb hard drives to my WHS setup can I configure to show like 1 hard drive?
How much slower is windows software raid is compare to a dedicated hardware raid?
Is this the right raid controller card to get?

I see... I didn't know that the raid controllers that came with our motherboards sucks.
My question is, I want to have about 4 TB of storage so I can drop all my files into it and just store them. At the same time I don't want so many drive letters. What can I do to make all 4 hard drive look...
Thanks for your replies, I understand that raid is not a source of back up. I do have an offisite back up for my data.
My motherboard already has an integrated raid controller card. Can I just use the raid card that is onboard or do I need a dedicated raid controller card?
Hi all!
I have an old PC lying around that I would like to turn into a file system. Please let me know which raid setup is best for my configuration and needs?
Windows 7 professional

ASUS Eee PC 1000HA $330
MSI Win Atom $300
Both are similar in spec. Which one would you guys choose and why? There's a few mini laptops to out in the market and I am not sure which one to go with. Thanks!
If specs are similar and both has Leopard OS installed which will be faster? Since the new apple computer are using either dual 2 core or quad core cpu it's pretty much the same specs I can build for a PC but much cheaper. I want to know if it is faster to run CS4 on a apple OS than a PC OS...
Hi,
I order some new parts for my new build. If I was not to overclock or choose to overclock a very mild overclock about 300-400mhz. Will the stock heatsink / fan be ok?
