Virtualizing Laptops for single application to get rid of wireless bottleneck

So you are talking about Remote Desktop Services then right? also, no need to replace the laptops as they will 'become' dumb terminals (and they already own them) The laptops are needed because they walk the computers around to different patients and use them on the fly, so laptops + wireless...

Virtualizing Laptops for single application to get rid of wireless bottleneck

I have a customer that has a single SQL app on a server. They access it via 8 laptops (want to grow up to 14) wirelessly. The nature of the business requires wireless. I've confirmed that the app runs far quicker on the gigabit wired desktops, so I came up with a solution: Put in a VM server...

    Windows 8.1 search/index mapped drives

I've got SBS2011 with several file shares and windows 8.1 pro. Everything is in a domain. Back in the windows 7 days, I could go to one of my mapped drives, go to the search window, type in something, and get immediate results. Since upgrading to windows 8 and 8.1, the search finishes...

Poll: Which motherboard manufacturer are you loyal to?

For servers I go strictly Intel as I can get warranty parts (which I hardly ever need) overnight free shipping. I guess being a partner helps as well. Still, no other vendor gives me that response time. This includes Supermicro, Gigabyte, Asus, etc. For my own desktop I've been gigabyte for...

    Intel RS2BL080 Transient Error?

some of the intel sas expander cages have problems using drives at 6Gbps. (WD RE drives especially) The fix for me was to jumper the drive down to 3Gbps, and then it worked fine. I would have unexpected senses at random, and occasionally a raid dropout.

24 Disk NAS Windows Server - need suggestions

great! thanks guys for all the suggestions. I'll look into this and see if I need any more info. edit: The supermicro list (I'll probably do the case with the built in sas expander backplane) is probably the way I will suggest to go. If my client surprises me and wants the norco option for...

24 Disk NAS Windows Server - need suggestions

Sharing will be windows only to windows only computers. budget is the 5-8k area roughly. i have to leave room for markup to the customer. (if this is completely off base then I will adjust as needed) throughput is not a big deal as runs are put there one at a time. their current gigabit...

24 Disk NAS Windows Server - need suggestions

I've been doing some heavy reading on the Norco scene for the past couple of days and I've learned quite a bit. Most of my clients live in the single server, <1TB storage needs arena, so I'm not into this stuff every day. That said, I have a client that currently has a IBM server with a...
