Current lifetime keys will remain lifetime. You will just have to convert to new key format when 2.0 is released final.
The beta has a separate key and is only good for the beta program. You can not use your existing key with the beta.
That is the worst one out there right now IMO. Newer variants of it actually screw with file permissions. Try to run a tool from a directory and boom you are no longer owner and cant see anything in it.
What you haven't considered is people may buy legit copies instead of pirating if the price is cheaper. I think the publishers have to provide more of an advantage to buying a legit copy. For example free downloadable content, support etc.
Arctic silver five can be had a radio shack B&M stores for less than 9.00 in a thermaltake pack but labeled arctic silver five on the syringe. Saved me some time instead of waiting for shipping at least.
