    Home office/gaming PC - $1000

You're right. Probably going to come in around $1000 without case or monitors. I'm OK with that if the parts are all solid and I didn't go over/underboard on any of my choices. I also want to make sure that these are all generally compatible and will run 1080P at 144hz. AMD Ryzen 5 2600X - $190...

    Home office/gaming PC - $1000

Looking for some advice on a build and reassurance that I'm not over/under-buying certain parts. Low energy use/noise is a plus. General home use and some gaming. Looking to stay around $1000, but flexible. Dallas, TX so Microcenter is an option. Only things I plan to reuse are NAS, BluRay...

    Reduce NVR sound level

Thank you sir. I dremeled the inlet grill off of the case and now it's ~48 dBa w/o the case and ~54 dBa with the case. Anybody know a quiet fan to replace that one?

    Reduce NVR sound level

I installed a new security system in my house and put the NVR in our master bedroom. I did this before powering up and hearing how loud the unit was. A ticket to the manufacturer was fruitless so I'm wondering what I can do to quiet this thing down on my own. I downloaded an app and base lined...

build help - $500 while reusing some parts

Haha, you are correct sir. I just got back from MC and they confirmed the same. I ended up getting a bundle deal on the CPU and Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3-1600 for $10 off the already discounted price, so $70. Looking for another motherboard now. :)

build help - $500 while reusing some parts

Bah. That GPU won't work because I need dual DVI for my monitors. Any suggestions for GPUs in that price point? I need dual DVI and need to power the whole system with a Corsair 450VX.

build help - $500 while reusing some parts

That's good info, thank you sir. I'll go with the 4590. I'm going to go with the bigger SSD and no new HDD. I use about 180GB of combined SSD and HDD space. ~85GB of that is family pictures. If I do a 256GB SSD and use my current 250GB HDD just for family pictures, I'll still be using less...

build help - $500 while reusing some parts

MC has the 4590S for just $10 more than the 4590. What are your thoughts on the 4590S? I'm reading ~25% less power consumption (presumably less heat and noise) with the same performance.

build help - $500 while reusing some parts

Is it generally true that you get better performance from a larger SSD or is that just in this case? I may still stick with the smaller one since it's still an SSD and I suspect faster than the one I have and it feels fast to me. What about the GPU I selected? Is that a solid performer at...

build help - $500 while reusing some parts

    1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc 90% web browsing and email, 10% gaming. I rarely run high settings even when I can. 2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included? ~$500 after tax and shipping. 3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S...

I really miss setting foes against each other

You could use the Pheropods in HL2 to make the Antlions attack the Combine soldiers. That was fun. :)

On the brink of mastering quick subnetting

Yeah, the variation is in the subnet and mask, not the type of question. It was hard enough to code without adding multiple question types. :) Hopefully it will help folks with the math and in seeing the patterns.
