Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
I am interested in doing this.....I've built lots of computers, but have never done this before. so do I get a barebones enclosure? Do I need to build a computer? How do you embed FreeNAS onto the hardware?
Point me in the right direction and get me started...
Heh...great discussion gentlemen... funny thing though--you can't get a ToughSwitch right now if you wanted. Expected delivery: January.
I was looking at the 8 port ToughSwitch. $200 for a managed PoE switch with 150 watts to budget-- that is really cheap. So what's the tradeoff--- it...
Does anybody have one in use?
Just looking for some feedback. I haven't seen anything out there with that feature set for that price-- but the truth always comes from actual deployment. BTW-- I am looking to operate 4 security cameras with it.
From what I've read, they just don't follow the 802.3af standard exactly. Some of their equipment wants different voltages, so they pack their own injector with their equipment to supply whatever the device wants. It is still PoE...but it's unique to them.
I think I'll be getting this...

It's actually designed for vehicles, this one has a massive 105 degree horizontal field of view...
Here it is in 1080 pointing at a row of cashier/checkout stands...
Thanks for the input. I was talking actual AIR temperature-- not windchill. Without a doubt, there will be several nights of around -20F (with windchills that could go to -80F -- not that it matters for the camera) ;)
Now I see how part of the temp ratings on these cams are evaluated--- those...
I have been looking at IP cams, like the Vivotek IP8332, or possibly the Axis m1113e
These will be installed in South Dakota. It could easily be -30F for several nights in any given winter. Anybody have experience with cams in EXTREMES of cold? I am going to spend about $1,000 for two cams +...
Yeah--- that's the sort of thing I'm finding... there always seems to be a "...But..." part of the equation that sucks.
...and btw-- thanks... Now I have to dig through all the specs on D-link cameras....
klank-- that looks quite a bit worse than the cam examples from the original post. It makes me wonder if there is something in your setup that needs to be tweaked perhaps?
LOL... exactly. I was ready to drop money on 3 Ubiquiti aircams, but started reading this thread and I held off. I am curious about the new cam software (up to version 1.3) and whether they fixed the memory leak issues. Also-- since it has been 5+ months more use, there may be some new...
