Bump for an epic thread. Was reading thru trying to find a source of the Fresnel lenses, but didn't find one. Anyone have more information on where Vega got them from?
780i's aren't terrible boards - they do take a lot more time to overclock versus a X38/P45 chipset.
Keep your memory settings at default and lets focus on the FSB for your chip for now. With decent air cooling, we should be able to get you stable at 3.2 Ghz.
Still going strong with my HP P1230's...had to retire one of them recently because everything was red (or was it green).
For the OP, what model monitor do you have? I feel like a majority of the larger monitors could run at a higher refresh for that resolution (note the ones I have can do 85hz...
Anyone ever use the 3D Blaster from Creative Labs? II have fond memories of that 3D card, using the VLB. There were some cools game on it too that I've never seen since, and I can't remember the name of them at all either!
Inflated prices happens quite often...look at what Netflix [NFLX] stock used to be (before the price increase) or take a look at Pricelines stock [PCLN].
I'd take a look at that 4650 if you are looking for a card - interesting that it supports directx 10.1 - you could probably get some points on hwbot trying to run 3dmark vantage with that platform.
Never crazy OC's on the q6600 since I'm running on a 780i chipset and that board can be pretty frustrating to OC. On stock volts you can get 3.1/3.2 pretty easy. Never above 3.6 on the chip (under phase change or chilled water)
BTW - have a stock intel cooler I could include with the chip...
