    Overclocking E6550 on stock cooler

Alright, update. It's stable at 3Ghz. It's nice seeing Crysis run like a charm at 1440x900, all settings very high, 2x AA. Though I never tested it while my CPU was at stock clocks. Think I should try to go for 3.15? Or wait until I can afford cooling (will be a long time sadly) -Matt

    Overclocking E6550 on stock cooler

I've got it running at 3ghz now. I had to leave my ram at 800 since it didn't like being overclocked, so its actually running at 799. Anyway, running prime95 on blend atm, hopefully it'll be stable. Temps are hitting 73 under load.(posting from my mobile since i'm about to go to sleep)

    Overclocking E6550 on stock cooler

Yeah I plan on getting the AC7 and some decent AS5 thermal compound when I can afford to. But right now I'm spending my money on other things, so I can't. Alright, so what do you guys think about the Northbridge voltage (for people that know about the P5N-E and it's badly cooled NB). Is 1.56...

    Overclocking E6550 on stock cooler

Late reply, the highest conroe is the E6850 @ 3Ghz. So I could try that, or possibly 3.15Ghz. The thing is, I can get it to boot at 2.98Ghz, but the core temps are at 71*C after 5 minutes of Orthos or Prime95. Haven't got it to boot with 3.15Ghz (my next milestone) yet, but I believe that's due...

    Your Domain Name. And you!

Only have one domain. rebelfront.com I spent hours trying to find a good name for a gaming site, couldn't really so I came up with something that wasn't really to do with gaming and bought it heh. -Matt

    Recent upgrade, new spec

Well I dunno. That's the thing, from what I've seen it's the Q6's that have that argument, and the Q9's essentially act the same as dual's when not all four cores are in use. If that's true though, I'll go for the E8400, saves me a bit and I'm more of a gamer. -Matt

    Recent upgrade, new spec

Heh, sorry, sounded like I wasn't listening to your recommendation. Yeah I understand, but given that my old machine with a horrible emachines (and known to die a lot) PSU only died after 2 years when the motherboard went, and my Smartpower didn't die on me, I'm not worried about it. And it...

I'm not buying a new power supply right after I bought a new one. But the rest of your suggestions sound good, E8400 look good? -Matt

    Recent upgrade, new spec

I don't like ATI. And I didn't post this to be told what I should or shouldn't have done instead. I'm just looking for feedback for the future, and comments on the kind of settings I should get with my new set-up. -Matt

    Recent upgrade, new spec

Err, read the bottom spec. I'm using a GTX 280 not an 8600GT xD And I've upgraded my PSU Edit: Also the P5N-E only supports DDR2-800 -Matt

    Recent upgrade, new spec

The point is I've bought that now and I've completely blown my budget, overspent by a ton. So I can't buy anything else just yet. But I'm interested in knowing what to buy next. I'm looking at the E8400 and 4Gb Corsair DDR2 800Mhz RAM. But it'll be a while. -Matt

    Recent upgrade, new spec

Can't believe I forgot to say. 19" monitor, haven't overclocked the CPU, can't with 667Mhz RAM. The Hi-Power PSU was from ebuyer.com - Got it because I thought "Well, I ended up getting a not-so-reliable PSU when I went with a good name anyway, so why not go with someone less known and save a...

Looking at buying a GTX 260

Yeah I'll have to move one of my hard-drives, which I happen to have placed directly in line with my graphics card (don't ask why). If I'm getting 50*C stock temp and 85*C load temp on an 8600GT which most people are reporting at 40*C stock, 60*C load, will I have cooling problems with the...
