AMD Radeon R9 290X CrossFire Video Card Review @ [H]

I was laughing at that comment, too. It doesn't matter if you have a 10,000-watt industrial fan blowing air at 100 miles per hour into your case, the power/wattage being used has to be dissipated and it's just as much heat, regardless. The R9 290X uses more power than a Titan or 780, so it WILL...

NVIDIA Kepler GTX 680 (GK-110) GPU-z Screenshot Exposed

No it doesn't, you just don't know what 60 FPS sustained is; or, you don't know what maxed settings really means.

Thinking about getting a 2nd card for SLI--When's the best time to buy?

SLI/Crossfire increases your frame rate, but it doesn't render as smoothly. 60 FPS on two cards feels more like 45 FPS with your mouse if you understand what I'm saying. Three cards more or less gets rid of the problem, for reasons unknown. Read this...

Thinking about getting a 2nd card for SLI--When's the best time to buy?

Get two more for a total of three. Micro-stutter sucks, unless you're not picky about fluidity in your gaming.

Might ditch Sprint for Verizon -- Verizon folks I need your expertise!

To the two people that replied quoting me, no network has perfect coverage; but it has been proven time and again that VZW has the best coverage and no one else is even close overall. There will be exceptions to everything. (I've also noticed VZW being superior while traveling to many parts of...

    Samsung S27A750D 120Hz

I love mine. I have the 23" version, though. (Higher pixel density for the win.) Crappy as hell stand, and no mounting holes on the back really pissed me off, I want to smack Samsung over the head for that; but the screen itself, is second to none. Seriously, Samsung - you can't remove the...

    Fastest Nationwide carrier?

This isn't even a question. I can hit 59 megabits down on my HTC Rezound on Verizon's network in the evening, 25-35 megabits during peak times in the day on speakeasy.net/speedtest. (Way better speed test site than the crap everyone uses which is speedtest.net) AT&T, if they spend enough...

Might ditch Sprint for Verizon -- Verizon folks I need your expertise!

Verizon's not the cheapest, but their coverage is best BAR NONE. Nobody will give you a steady, consistent signal - even in a lot of rural areas - like Verizon. End of story. I was hiking in the Hoh National Rain Forest on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state last summer, and my Droid X...

Video card performance relative to monitor size

Well, since you're not overclocking your CPU, RAM bus, etc.; you'd actually have to overclock by more than 17% to compensate, but you've got the right idea. It's also more work on other parts of the system besides the GPU, though it's primarily the GPU getting hit.

    Physx

It's worthless to sell the card, just underclock it significantly. Much lower power consumption.
  11. R

    Physx

Using a GPU for Physx is actually a bad idea. GPUs are more of a cap than CPUs almost always. It doesn't help that Nvidia purposely refuses to optimize Physx being handled by the CPU, though. Quite a dirty situation, honestly. That being said, since you have a spare card, you may want to use it...

    2x 3GB 580s or 2x 7970s?

Some people just don't get it...you can rape 4x 7970s with practically any DX9 title if you just crank up anti-aliasing when you set the mode to supersampling, lol. Also, my micro-stutter has essentially disappeared from what I can tell, adding a 3rd 5870 into the mix. Even when they are being...

    2x 3GB 580s or 2x 7970s?

Skyrim would be the best to test with by far, since cranking everything (particularly anti-aliasing) really rapes GPUs in that one, but BF3 is the only other recent game I have that is rather GPU-taxing. I'm busy this weekend, but I think I can do it next weekend.

    2x 3GB 580s or 2x 7970s?

By the way, does anybody have a recommendation for the best frame rate limiter? I like to leave v-sync off whenever possible because so many games introduce anywhere from a tiny amount to a considerable amount of input lag with it enabled, but some game engines have really high caps and there's...

    2x 3GB 580s or 2x 7970s?

Again, tri-SLI/Xfire doesn't have the issue and it's not because of the extra power the 3rd card brings. Perhaps there is an inherent flaw in how the frames get queued after they are rendered but before they are displayed with two cards, that doesn't exist for three+? Who knows.
