Dell Venue 8 Pro Tablet 32GB(Full Win 8.1) $185, likely LESS [Refurbished w/warranty]

I agree you get what you pay for. But for sub-$185 it is a pretty good deal and this is a well-received budget 8" tablet. Once the next gen intel CPUs come out this is destined for major price drops, but if you are in the market now this is a hard to beat deal.

Should I get laptop or tablet for newbie Aunt?

my vote is tablet. If shes never used a computer she has a lot to learn anyway, and tablet might be a slightly simpler and cheaper starting point

Thoughts on the Dell Venue 11?

I think you need to decide on your form factor first. Jumping from a 7" to 11" tablet is a huge change - have you looked at any larger tablets in person in a store?

Should I hold off till the 4th to buy hardware?

Not sure about the 4th, but microcenter's $190 i5 3570k and $50 off mobo combo is pretty hard to beat. I just picked up these for $300: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0388577 http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0387556 That's...

I ended up going with the WD hard drive due to peace of mind (My last 3 HDs have been WD and never had an issue) and the 5 year warranty. Thanks everyone for their input. I have ordered all the parts! Can't wait to get this mofo up and running. Total came out to $1169

$1200 gaming build w/ivy bridge - close to buying, need input

Just updated my original post with the latest parts. I took Danny Bui's advice, switched to the cooler master HAF 912 case, the TX 650 V2 PSU, the non-EVO Hyper 212, and the cheaper RAM. I am not too sure about the HGST drive, I am a little apprehensive based on a lot of reviews saying DOA...

ASRock Z77 Extreme4 or Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H for new rig

I lokked at those two mobos also. I am planning on going with the gigabyte because i hear good things about their support and rma process, and the opposite for asrock. I cant comment on feature differences though.

thanks for the advice. I'll check the mobo at microcenter. As far as case fans, I had forgotten about that! I think I'll get one of these to start: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835553002 The antec 300 case has 2 decent fans already.

    Gaming Build $1000-$1200

You can take a look at my thread too, it is on the upper end of your price range and doesn't include windows 7 but you can shave a few bucks here and there. My build isn't finalized, but its a thread you can keep an eye on if its helpful to you.

$1200 gaming build w/ivy bridge - close to buying, need input

Thanks, I think I'll stick with my mobo as I like some of the extra features. I just updated my original post, changing the power supply based on a recommendation in another thread. It's $10 more but looks like a safer bet. Now I just need to find out if my ram is worth $60 or if I should get...
