AMD Athlon 64 x2 6400+ / Dell Inspiron 531s cloaking device: It's my first build...

Thanks again. I finally read some of the fine print. You say that the CPU affects the engine physics as opposed to textures, and a game written to represent the physics will consume more CPU time than a simple texture laden one. Okay. ...Still, wouldn't a 7990 give you a much better frame...

AMD Athlon 64 x2 6400+ / Dell Inspiron 531s cloaking device: It's my first build...

Thanks. I was thinking that the game engine configuration might be the deciding factor... I was hoping to use the CPU as a form of instruction set device... like a command and control unit... to handle instructions to and forth... and delegate all else to the GPU. I am under the impression...

AMD Athlon 64 x2 6400+ / Dell Inspiron 531s cloaking device: It's my first build...

Well... I'm well on my way. I had to ditch the motherboard which crashed after attempting to update my BIOS from Dell. I'm now running fine with a new motherboard. I am wondering... would there be any issues with running a high end graphics card (like an HD 6970 / 7970... GTX 570... 690... or...

Can I run a AMD Athlon 6400+ Black edition in a Dell 531s?

Say every body, just thought I'd update a few things: Since I first posted I have made numerous upgrades, and have this PC running like it's meant to run. what fun! I can't say that everything has gone well if that must mean as expected... unless you mean that I did say I couldn't really...

    Win 8 love

Might I add, now that it's over... I really would still (have) recommended Windows 8 Pro... it works well. my last post was over two (2) months ago. It's only gotten better. I made a clean install on my hard drive, at on point, and was directed to reboot from disk, so I was able to choose to...

    Win 8 love

I did not read all the posts (before posting), but got some of the general trend, and I just wanted to say I'm really excited about Windows 8. I had a computer for about 5 years, and finally got into upgrades. It has only taken a few months, but the world has really changed. I started...

AMD Athlon 64 x2 6400+ / Dell Inspiron 531s cloaking device: It's my first build...

I don't know if any one remembers my post about upgrading a Dell Inspiron 531s with an AMD Athlon 64 x2 6400+ processor last Fall. I said I was going to try and upgrade my five year old Dell Inspiron 531s with a new processor... Well, I'm only part way there, but I already have replaced...

Can I run a AMD Athlon 6400+ Black edition in a Dell 531s?

BTW every body: It's been a while. Thanks for all the help. Start up phase is through... The build so far: New AsRock N68C-GS FX motherboard... powered by 400 watt KDM-MFXS9400C... in support of AMD Athlon 64 x2 6400+ CPU... Asus Arctic Square Cooler... 2G (2 x1G) OCZ Reaper memory...

Can I run a AMD Athlon 6400+ Black edition in a Dell 531s?

Okay, I know this looks like crap; (I drew it in about five minutes with my mouse). It's just the main idea: I don't know if you have to log in, or what... can I just download a jpeg?

Can I run a AMD Athlon 6400+ Black edition in a Dell 531s?

@ Matthew Cane The idea was to be able to run continuously without overclocking. The nitrogen was only for special events. I have a design the pot, it's actually more like a copper pan for better surface area with magnesium walls that narrow to the pour... I'm thinking an inverted / reverse...

Can I run a AMD Athlon 6400+ Black edition in a Dell 531s?

Thanks for the tip(s) everybody. (I especially needed that info on the RAM and VRMs, thanks THOMO..., that fits nicely into what I've been able to gather about this chip- and so should be essential to getting it done the right way.) And the fans... laptop chargers... . R.I.

DEll Inspiron 531s: RAM / memory upgrade... what's possible?

I hope you are right. I'll try it. May need some more research, first, though, ...to see if there is a way to get around that... . Thanks. R.I.

Can I run a AMD Athlon 6400+ Black edition in a Dell 531s?

... A Scythe Godhand / Susanoo... with a copper pan with a magnesium wall... and a silver core with a magnesium cup and shroud... to cool the air on top... with "coolant...". I don't want to pour nitrogen directly onto the cpu... just to drive the air passing through the heat sink into...
