I have an older PC right now (3570k) that I'm looking to upgrade in the near future. I won't need any upgrades until late this year or early next year.
I was planning to wait for the next generation of Zen before upgrading, but it also looks like RAM prices are increasing and from what I read...
You want this type of stuff on your SSD. That's where they give you your big improvements. You really aren't going to wear out the SSD with typical usage.
If you have Windows 7 or 8, TRIM is automatic. Garbage collection is also automatic. You don't need to do anything here.

Samsung 830. Faster, better, etc. Also MLC instead of TLC NAND, although I'm not sure that will be significant for most users.
For the price in the 128gb range it's hard to beat that right now.
Plextor M3 is also a good choice. You're not going to really notice the difference between the M3's and M5's in day to day usage. Save a bit of money.
There are some fantastic deals on 830's right now though that make them an easy win. Not sure if this is the same in the UK though.

Really, if you want to minimize heat build up, you should be using as few fans as possible. The heat output in to your room is equal to your power draw, which will obviously increase as you add fans. That being said, processing units will use a bit more power as temperatures increase, but I...
This is what I would do based on space requirements. On the 256 GB side I'd lean more heavily to the Samsung 830. I don't really think the M5P is worth the extra money (not that it isn't a great drive).
