The PC is also connected to a surge protector, and not straight to the wall. Still, the device itself does kick in, so I doubt that it has anything to do with this.
This is so strange, as even during heavy load the PC never exceeds ~800W in power consumption. Does it...

The network is indeed somewhat complicated for a home (several PCs, TVs, game consoles and other devices, and 7 switches in total, at different points). The theory is interesting, however I was able to reproduce the issue *once* without the NIC installed...
