    Intel Chipset Design Error!!!

Looks like the two of you should get together and cut some sort of deal. Of course geting the replacement on a re-sold board might be a little bit of a hassle.

    Intel Chipset Design Error!!!

Intel's sales projections for Sandy Bridge were not all that crazy in the first quarter. I don't see any indication that a massive shift in manufacturing had already taken place. They only got 100,000 boards out to the field and most of the retailers ran dry pretty fast. That looks a lot more...

    Sandybridge Mobo setback

The number of end users (out of only 100,000 out here) impacted before the replacements come out may be zero. Ultimately, over a 5 or 10 year "life" and millions of boards, a lot of people might have been affected had it not been caught. At least compared to my checking account, a billion...

    Sandybridge Mobo setback

Yes indeed they are "middle of the road" parts. All I'm saying is that the Z series also is in the same area without turning the high end into the "new middle". If they were doing that, then indeed it woud be well worth waiting for them.

Sandy Bridge mobo defect email from Newegg

I'm sure that Intel is paying the bills on at least some of this process. Yes indeed you can play with your board (with full warranty) and replace it in a couple of months or ship it back now. Since you likely also have a CPU and a bunch of other parts, ship it back now may not make much...

    Sandybridge Mobo setback

Based on what I have seen, the Z68 rumors don't get me very excited. There are indeed issues with the P68 chip and the Z68 really does not address them. To me the main one is the limited number of PCIe lanes. Minor ones like lack of USB-3 and full SATA-3 / 6 G support also are not addressed...

    Intel Chipset Design Error!!!

You have two basic choices: 1) Wait until maybe June for a Sandy Bridge solution. 2) Pick something else. Not to excited about "something else" when you have seen Sandy Bridge? I don't blame you at all. That's why I bought one two weeks ago and would buy another today. I expect Intel...

    Intel Chipset Design Error!!!

If you listen to the Intel conferance call, they are planning to sell more older CPU's this quarter to make up the "gap" caused by Sandy Bridge dropping out. Having the channel dry up woud make that imposible. Basic math is $300 M drop in sales (with all Sandy Bridge gone) typical quarter is $11...

    Intel Chipset Design Error!!!

Yes indeed, stuff like optical drives are a good thing to move to the SATA 2 ports if you have run out of STAT 3 ports. You may see a problem, but you should be able to take action before it hoses you.

    Intel Chipset Design Error!!!

It's not at all clear that volume board shipments start up in April. Intel is talking about volume chip shipments in April. A lot of the motherboards we have right now were built in November and December. You could easily be looking at June for replacement boards.

    Intel Chipset Design Error!!!

They would not be going through the same machine to do the repair. Putting a BGA on the first time is not like pulling it off and putting on another one. You solder screen and place an entire board at once first time through. For the replacement, you simply can't do it that way - to much stuff...

    Intel Chipset Design Error!!!

With a few exceptions, all the P67 / H67 boards have limited SATA channels. On most of them, filling up all the card slots means turning off (many) motherboard features. That's certainly the case with the board I have. An add on card is not much of a band aid for these boards. If it's a...
