    By way of update: I updated the BIOS to the latest available (2001) and was able to boot with one stick. I also set the XMP profile to the only one available (1600 @ 1.25v) and it still booted. However, once a second stick of memory is present it will not post and is stuck on the dram light.

    Thanks for the reply... I had heard that the 3gb 580 didn't increase performance enough, even for high resolutions. At least not in the case that it was the limiting factor. If you were doing SLI, you'd be more likely hampered by vram when running high res, so the 3gb would be very useful...
