    Vlan question.

Adding exceptions for vlan 1 on those ports looks to be the ticket. (I also added vlan 10 to the dvport group) No more dhcp offers from the other vlans. yea! As for the next step in learning\testing, I went ahead and created an interface in astaro for the lab lan. I can now ping computers...

    Vlan question.

Its just a basic managed layer 2 switch, lacp, trunking, vlans. Web interface only. If I understand you correctly, I should remove the vlan 10 ports from the untagged vlan 1 (exclude is the switches term) so it's only on vlan 10. I do have an astaro utm that will be the router for the vlan...

    Vlan question.

I finally updated my lab switch here at the house, (HP 1810-24g) and started to play around with ways to separate my "lab" portion of my network away from the "production" portions. Let me describe what I have running, 2 Esxi hosts, 1 nas for vm shared storage, Vcenter has 3 dvswitches one...

Can I / Should I attach 14tb of freenas raidz2 storage as iscsi?

Your right, it's to many layers. once I did a test build, it got scrapped in a hurry. I ended up just building ESXi on the hardware and passing through the onboard lsi to freenas and sharing the media out as cifs (via dfs links from one of the Windows guests.) I did for giggles create a few...

ESxi and NAS vs Esxi/NAS All in one?

I second this mo-board selection. I have this board w/ 1230v3 running esxi with the lsi passed to freenas. It's been working good. Though performance suffers a little with less than 12Gb of ram assigned to freenas. (6x4tbZ2)

Can I / Should I attach 14tb of freenas raidz2 storage as iscsi?

This is interesting, let me make sure I understand what you have setup. You have 2 hypervisors, both with freenas vms's, and then the storage from each is iscsi'ed to the other hypervisor?

    FreeBSD Jails vs Virtualization/ESXi

I have been running a AIO Esxi (9450 w\10Gb ram) with Astaro for years. I've had very little problems with it (outside of realtek nics). If your current hardware has the power/compatibility, you can convert your current Sophos box to Esxi and then download the virtual appliance and use your...

Can I / Should I attach 14tb of freenas raidz2 storage as iscsi?

I'm looking for ideas on the best way to add this storage. Here's the story: Home lab components: SM MBD-X10SL7-F-O 1230V3 32Gb ram 6x 4Tb NAS drives 256Gb SSD, MLC Current configuration thought: ESXi 5.5 pass-through the (IT mode'ed) LSI to freenas 9.x attaching the 6x4tb drives as...

Looking for a reality check on two home projects

I've spent the last week reading and testing what I can with my existing hardware. I'm looking to buy a GA-990FXA-UD5 or ASRock 970 Extreme3 with a 8350 & 32Gb for this new setup. Which mobo depends on if phase 2 is doable or not. Phase1: I have 3 severs currently, two esxi5.1 (6 guests to be...

    4770k heat issue

I almost forgot to report the end result of all of this. I ended up getting a EVO 212 and that put the heat issue to bed. I even get a mild OC off the chip too, 4.4 on 2 cores and 4.2 on 4 cores @ 1.2v and 75c. It will go 4.5x2 and 4.4x4 @ 1.255v and 90c but I need this chip to last a few years...

    4770k heat issue

Being a person that cannot leave anything well alone. I dug around in the garage for an hour and found the HSF from my old Q9450. I know 755 is smaller than 1150, but with a few mods and holding my mouth right, I got it to bolt on. Its about double the size of the 4770k stocker. See here So...

    4770k heat issue

Yes, I have not even bothered with OC'ing other than the light setting within Easytune (4.1), and that was just a short gaming session and then I reset it all back to auto. I may manually set stock settings and see if that's any different. The screen print above was handbrake running. In my...

    4770k heat issue

Ok I couldn't wait to tear it down. :p Pulled the mobo out, looked a-ok. I pulled HSF off anyway, re-tim'ed it and reinstalled. Same deal. See link to screenprint below. Even with a new HSF (I ordered a Evo 212) I cannot imagine this cpu will overclock at all. I may take newegg up on their...
