Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
My preemptive apologies as this is not really a pure Networking issue, but often has a lot to do with Servers and the administration of a network so I thought this would be an appropriate place to post:
Regarding, remote power cycle devices using an IP connection:
These are often mentioned...
Yes, this is what I believe I will do. I thought it would be more efficient to combine everything in one Switch, but it appears that separate devices for separate purposes might be the better way to go.
Brand/Model recommendations would be appreciated.
I've had good luck with NetGear...
I've never used more than 1 Switch on my Networks.
I can just plug the second Switch into my Router and all those 2nd Switch Ports will be on the same Network as my other 1st Switch's Ports? Or do I need to link the Switches directly?
Sorry for the REAL simplistic questions.
Thanks.
Ah yes then, that would explain it. I suppose I'm looking at the lower end of POE capable Switches.
24 Ports is probably my bottom limit. I have that capacity (not fully utilized) on my current Switch, but with 4-8 anticipated POE devices being added, I don't want to go below 24.
Yes...
I'm going to add some POE Security cameras to my home and office.
I'm inclined to just replace my current Switch with one that incorporates POE capability-as opposed to adding a separate POE capable Switch. First question: Is that a bad idea?
Secondly, I've noticed that the POE Switches...
Nice technology.
I have a security system as well, but I don't have my PCs connected to it, just doors, windows, motion detection, smoke alarms, etc.
Does your system use UPB (powerline) so that conceivably EVERY device plugged into an AC outlet is part of your security system?
Thanks.
I hadn't thought about z-wave!! I have that technology (via HomeSeer) at both my home and office.
So I could use a z-wave outlet adapter and power/repower as needed? Along with the BIOS modifications above that should work for a crashed/locked up PC?
I'm not sure what you mean by...
Thanks.
Yes, this appears to be my problem. The BIOS was set to OFF under the "Loss of AC Power".
I can't duplicate my "lock-up" issue exactly, but I did power off the PC and then plugged it back in, and it did start without physical depression of the power switch. Thus, this appears to...
I posted this in the General Hardware Forum, but am reposting here in the hopes that this Section is where a number of knowledgeable IT pros are present:
I have a remote PC which occasionally "locks up" requiring a cold restart.

Thanks, but I'm not sure how that is any different than any other remote power cycle product.
Again, when this computer "freezes", I have to phsically depress the PC power swith to reset it.
I'm sure there is a solution, as IT pros deal with similar problems routinely.
My lack of...
I am using the following SuperMicro rack cabinet:

The mounting rails are recessed approximately 3" back from the upper edge of the cabinet. This casues a problem with a rack-mounted monitor which must swing up to open...
I have a remote PC which occasionally "locks up" requiring a cold restart.
I am aware of the numerous products which allow for a remote power cycle, but this particular situation requires a physical press of the front PC power switch in order to properly reboot the PC.
I'm not sure how to...
