    WTB: ibook g3 or thinkpad

FS: VERY interesting athlon 64 pc!

Here I have an Athlon 64 system that a relative gave to me. I need money for a college laptop, so it's basically useless to me. It's not a GREAT system, but more than adequate for most needs. It's VERY quiet, considering the water cooling and fanbus. The front panel is really neat, with two...

    Looking for a new ISP

Comcast is hit or miss. They're generally a mediocre service (in Philly) with absolutely horrible customer service. As soon as you get it, switch your DNS to 4.4.4.0 or another public, reliable service. ...I've boycotted Comcast ever since they slaughtered TechTV into a bloody pulp, threw...

    My 3000+s gonna fry!!

It's pretty warm today in Philly. Ambient room temp is probably around 80F. There are no fans or air conditioning on :D

    My 3000+s gonna fry!!

I'm now getting a solid 43C on water. Hopefully a BIOS update and letting the paste solidify will get that processor 10C lower :-p

    My 3000+s gonna fry!!

The BIOS clearly says 100C, but I'm really hoping it somehow got switched to F :-p. Don't think that's the case, though. The other temps are all accurate (low 20s) for my setup.

    My 3000+s gonna fry!!

Okay, so I just dropped in a Athlon 64 3000+, skt 754 Venice. I have a athlon XP innovatek watercoolibf kit with a socket 754 adaptor. Arctic silver 5 applied properly. When I boot the machine and go into BIOS, the thing is 100 degrees C!!! The board is a DFI LanParty 250gb. I can touch the...

Applying Thermal Paste To an A64

If you're doing it spread style instead of Arctic Silver's reccomended "pea" style, you spread the paste throughout. That big metal cap on the processor is actually designed to spread the heat from the core.

    Mobile rack/cabinet

Build it then. Order rack rails and build the frame out of metal square tubing. Get someone to weld it if you cannot or don't want to. Then simply attatch plywood to the sides and add castors. Job done. There are many rack plans on the internet.

    Mobile rack/cabinet

Look for racks used by touring musicians, you can find good mobile ones for a few hundred. Bass guitarists especially use them, with pre/power amps, effects, compressors.. oh my! :p

Dig around on trash nights for old cases, most have one. A piezo buzzer from radioshack may also work.

Any benifits going to DVI from VGA?

The DVI-VGA adaptor is just for PCs with only a DVI out or dual-monitor setups that have a DVI and VGA out. You won't see any improvement by using the adaptor in a DVI connector instead of straight VGA.
