I am up 5.5 U2 now, for the P9X79 boards I dont think I had to but dont quote me on that, I also dont use the onboard NICS, I have Intel Quad NIC's in each server.
Just google whatever board you are thinking about using and see what others have done to get it work. Its not hard to slipstream...
Through the years I started with Napp-It, went to FreeNAS to try something new, Had stability issues with it, back on Napp-It.
Napp-It is no FreeNAS gui but it does run faster and has been more stable in my situation. Once everything is setup you rarely go to the GUI anyways. As far as jails...
Its hard to make a good recommendation without asking millions of questions but here are some ideas that I am using.
VM Storage in no particular order:
Option 1: Synology (Pick your flavor, I have a DS1511+ and DS1512+) Populated with SSD's
Option 2: HP Micro server with omni os + napp it...
Will 2 Amp Extremes fit next to each other, They are triple slot cards. I guess it depends on what setup you have.
How is your airflow, If airflow is poor people recommend reference cooler to exhaust the heat instead of keeping it in the case like most of the upgraded fans do.
So did you get anywhere with this?
In a previous build I had a 3930k with 2 GTX 680s all cooled by a 240mm x 25mm radiator and a 240mm x 60mm radiator. My GTX 680s never broke 40C at full load.
I still have the waterblocks if you are interested.
Does anyone have first hand experience with warranty through MSI or Zotac? I also am in the same "rut", usually go EVGA but that Zotac AMP Extreme looks beautiful.
