Thanks. Changed my mind. I tried several new laptops and didn't like any of them. I realize you can't really replace a desktop with a laptop. I'll keep my Win 7 Dell as my mobile computer of choice and stick with my desktop as the main system.
I cannot pimp this monitor enough. Anyone who went through the Samsung S24A850 debacle should jump on in! The water's warm, and the build quality and back light bleeding are far superior.
Very picky, and very pleased to have finally found the right IPS.
Picked up this monitor the other day and love it. The quality is better than I have seen from other IPS. So glad I found this one! A friend had one and I was impressed by the build and picture.
This is superior to the Samsung S24A850DW I had before. And I like how there's minimal back light...
A friend just go the PA24, and I'm very impressed. Beautiful display (although the bezel is a little wonky-looking).
I do a ton of writing and photography, and already have a Samsung 24 inch TN T240 that I Can use in a dual monitor setup.
I understand the 27 inch monitor is the superior...
Hey everyone,
I'm considering replacing my desktop with a laptop. I plan to move soon, and I'll also be on a two month trip to the Rockies this summer. The idea of going minimalistic appeals to me, but I don't want to be stuck with a poor decision. I like the idea of being able to rent a...
I find quality TN panels to be superior for text than IPS, especially when it comes to eye strain. The TN panel feels like "film", whereas the IPS stuff feels jumpy to me.
I felt the same thing with the S24a850. The screen felt "alive", and eye fatigue was noticable. The two copies I had also displayed brutal BLB so I took them back and kept my Samsung T240HD, which is fantastic for text.
A waste of time. At some point in the search for a monitor you have to weigh possible "defects" against the current norm, the cost of returning, and the value of your time.
Yeah both monitors were Samsung S24850's. Amazon was very gracious in their service, but the quality control of those monitors was horrible. Even my gf, who hates tech stuff and says I'm way too anal about tech looked at them and said "I wouldn't keep that".
The bleed in the OP's monitor is...
Here's what my last two $500 IPS monitors looked like:
I would never return a monitor with that little backlight bleed as the OP had. Crazy (especially if it had no other problems).
Try lowering the brightness. I had the S24850 and the screen looked "jumpy" to me. While I hate the color shift of my modern TN, it doesn't feel "alive" and my eyes don't strain on it. Much better for text, IMHO.
