Redesigning an internet cafe, need help and feedback

ah damn it all. So I had my .wim file created, installed the image to a vhd, told windows to boot from the vhd.... and... The systems have Win7 Pro. booting from a vhd is only supported in ultimate or enterprise. So with budget constraints in mind, what do I try next? I feel like the effort...

dual sound cards with separate output in win7?

Hey everybody, I came across a question i can't find an answer to. Using windows 7, is it possible (including 3rd party) to use dual sounds cards with separate audio streams? For example: Card 1 = Default sound Card 2 = Program x (for my uses would be pandora or itunes) I found...

Redesigning an internet cafe, need help and feedback

Oh, and as an actual update - I feel like I'm getting close to something workable. I have a test system setup, and used imagex to create the .wim image. so my next step is to try to mount the wim in a vhd, then change the boot.ini to boot from the vhd first. if that works and I can figure out...

Redesigning an internet cafe, need help and feedback

We already have two ubuntu systems in the mix, but apart from one particular user, nobody else will choose that box over windows. Many people also use word, excel, and itunes or they want to install some of their own software. That's really one of our largest advantages over the local kinkos...

Redesigning an internet cafe, need help and feedback

The point is people use it and pay for it, so it should be maintained. I personally would never have use for it either, but many people do. An average afternoon will see around 15 users logged in at any given time, sometimes more sometimes fewer.

Holy cow that's expensive. at $180 per 5 systems per year, deep freeze is really not an option. at all. This project pretty much has a budget of what I can find here in the store and possibly a server license if my boss is in a good mood.

Redesigning an internet cafe, need help and feedback

Deep freeze seems to have the same issues as steadystate that I wanted to get away from, particularly that to make any changes or updates, each individual system must 'thaw', be changed, then re-frozen. For a few systems it wouldn't be too bad, but I'm trying to manage 30-40 machines and...

Redesigning an internet cafe, need help and feedback

Hello everybody. So here at work we have an internet cafe where service is available by the hour. Right now all the systems are running windows xp, and so to maintain them we have been using the Windows SteadyState program, so that the computers can remain fully unlocked and usable for customers...

Anybody heard of or have experience with PreSonus?

Hi all, I hope this is the right section to find an answer. Anyways, I have a chance to buy PreSonus AudioBox Studio (amazon link) used, without the headphones, for $100. To me this looks like a good deal based on the price alone, but I've never heard of the company or it's products. I'm hoping...

    My 7970 Quad-Fire Build

And I always thought it was impossible to fall in love over the internet ;) I'm amazed. I've always dreamed of building a system with the best possible configuration and by Jove, there it is sitting in this thread.

    HTPC CPU

I ran an x2 4600+ with a geforce 8500gt on win7 and never had any problems with bluray. If gpu decoding is working properly then the cpu is barely touched at all.

Upgrading my htpc, video card question.

Actually scratch that bluray part. It seems media portal does have a bluray plugin as long as anydvd decrypts it first. I'll have to give that a shot.

Upgrading my htpc, video card question.

Well I got things started last night and had to make some adjustments. Because the smaller and quieter case I have is micro atx and my 775 board is micro (the AM2 is atx), the q6600 with quiet aftermarket hsf will be used for the htpc. My AM2 board also has more sata ports, so it will work...

Upgrading my htpc, video card question.

That's what I'll put together then, thanks! Assuming I'm starting from zero regarding software and can do whatever I need to have a compatible system, what would you recommend for software? I have a fairly decent variety of movies, tv series, and anime as ripped files and a bluray drive. I...

Upgrading my htpc, video card question.

I'm going to hijack my own thread a little then. I'm now considering going all fancy and setting up a windows home server to store/rip the media and having a quieter and cooler htpc front connected over gigabit. potential server: q6600, 4gb ddr3, 8500gt, 4-6tb storage potential htpc: athlon x2...
