    NEC 23" IPS EA231WMi

Yes. I swapped from a 17" CRT. Also think about Dell U2311H and ViewSonic VP2365wb. Read TFTCentral reviews. These and this NEC are all based on the same panel, so they perform quite similarly, except that Dell has overdrive (suits better for gaming) and ViewSonic is the cheapest (mostly due a...

And it still kept changing the brightness? Then you still must have had "Eco mode" on. If all these are off, it doesn't do it.

    Dell U2311H

Dead pixel and tinting are understandble reasons, but if you don't bother checking the manual or simply browsing through all the OSD menus to realize you still have "auto brightness" or "eco mode" or both on...

Do any 27"+ IPS have finer pixel pitch than .233?

    Dell U2311H

Reported tinting problems here vs. that review, I guess they simply got a near perfect unit. At least the overdrive is now confirmed. Test images show pretty obvious difference to the NEC.

    Dell U2311H

Where does it say it with brackets, on the actual panel? If all panels really have that format, then I guess it's simply not mentioned in all other models expect for these few in TFTCentral's database. If you put "sla" to TFTCentral's panel search, it finds couple of other models, two common 24"...

Dunno but ZR24w is listed similarly (datasheet says "S-IPS (H2-IPS)").

    Dell U2311H

Related: Is there now a consensus that this one has overdrive (unlike NEC EA231WMi or the ViewSonic equivalent of the same panel)? They thought so in Flatpanelshd review and obviously the response time spec is somewhat a hint since it has been given in G2G format, while NEC and ViewSonic listed...

    Dell U2311H

Yeah, the NEC is definitely not tint-free. Coming weeks will probably clarify (when more people get the U2311H) which is one safer bet.

    Dell U2311H

Because if you're a monitor manufacturer and not happy with LG's quality control, what other options do you really have?

Toastyx's post here: http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1034854552&postcount=403 I have not done this, but I think you need program like PowerStrip or something similar that can change those timings.
