• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

Green Drives and Linux Software RAID

Has anyone had any experience with green drives on Linux software RAID? Will it work? Is it worthless? Does it go out to lunch randomly? I read someplace that you don't have to use RAID Edition TLER green drives with Linux software RAID. The discussion also said that at worst the RAID Volume...

Backup Solution for Multi TB Storage System?

I am planning on building a storage system for home soon. I think It's going to be 10 x 2TB disks in a RAID 6 configuration running under Openfiler. I know RAID isn't a backup its just data availability. I also know that several users on this forum have storage systems that easily match that...

    How's this network layout look?

If your dead set on keeping that beast of a server around you could always make that your print server. No point in wasting even more electricity just to run a printer.

    Riad card

I can't imagine that your raid controller would be killing your hard drives. You probably either have bad luck or power issues. Unless your array is getting hit super hard your promise controller should be fine. It's a low end controller so you wont see the performance you would from a areca but...

    UPS question.

I have several APC SmartUPS's and I can say that they have been the best I have found to work with. You can find replacement batteries cheap on ebay so they basically have an unlimited lifespan. The nice thing about the APC's is that you can set windows up to shutdown when the battery level hits...

    LAN only, no internet?

Have you tried a different port on your switch and if possible a different port on your laptop? Yea I know most laptops only have one Ethernet port but, if you have anyway of borrowing a PCMCIA card from someone, that would help prove the ports are still good. I have seen several ports randomly...

If i understand what he's asking then he will need at least 2 wireless cards and 1 wired connection. It sounds like he basically wants everyone to connect to him instead of his router... other then a man in the middle attack or some kind or maybe traffic shaping he wants to do locally, I have no...
