In your BIOS under Integrated peripherals, besides having a "SATA port(0-3 Native mode (Intel p55 chipset)" setting, which should be enabled, there's also a "SATA RAID/AHCI Mode (Intel p55 chipset)" setting; this should be set to AHCI

Sorry about that; my eyes aren't what they used to be. However, for sideshow, my understanding is that its hidden until a compatible device is added. Once that occurs the sideshow icon will appear in the control panel.
