ya i have began doing a total backup of the drive on to optical media.... I may pick up a Hitachi or WD 1TB and RMA the seagate if this is enough of a reason too.....
edit: Another good thing is my seagate still falls under the 5 year warranty :) so I may just keep it till it completely craps...
Well, I have a Seagate 7200.11 1.5TB which was affected by the firmware issue, so I upgraded all the way to SD1B. All is good, nothing wrong with the drive, all it is is my storage drive.

problem in the case of seagate was it aint broke but you know it will be broke in a couple of days, months years, hence why Seagate release firmware for some of their drives to fix the issue.

Pioneer and if you can find one, Benq get my vote. Pioneer writes to any media i have thrown at it, benq burns good quality burns on verbatim dvd+r's and also have the ability to check the quality of the written content.
btw, my access time improved on that drive, but everything else stayed somewhat the same.

So I change the AAM mode on my WD hard drive to 254 (normal or loudest what ever you want to call it), my access times improved significantly but now Vista is buggered up.
In device manager it says my hard drive is in multi word dma 2 mode and in HD tune it says im in UDMA 7 mode...
