I have stock 480s sli'd in an FT02 which idle around 50C with tripple monitors. The FT02 made a huge difference to temperatures and noise for me. In a cm690 II idling at 70-80 and hitting 92C on load with 85%+ fan. Now they still hit 89C on load but at around 58% fan... case fans on low.
Thanks for this thread bizz! Really helped me pull the trigger and end the frustration with crossfinity.
I swapped out my 2gb 5870s for 2xgtx480s. Quite frankly after all the headaches and constant tweaking, i now not only sleep better but am generally a lot nicer to be around as a result...
I had this exact same issue with 2gb 5870s. Dropping ram by one multiplier fixed it. No idea why, system was very stable with the 1gbs in there, but not with the 2s, 30mins of gaming =GSOD. I originally thought i needed more Vcore, but no change. Also tried more and less Vqpi. No change there. I...
Same here. Lots of hanging and crashing with older games. Also halved fps in many newer games, even worse in bc2. Gpu usage never went over 60 to 70% on either card. Auto fan profiles were extremely sporadic, causing all sorts of overheating (by not ramping up or varying speed wildly)...
Thanks for your reply. I didnt know about the new msi. Actually really like the look of that. However I will need to run an NIC and because the x1 is taken up by a dedicated soundcard I'm not sure that populating a 3rd pcie slot won't drop one of the gpus back to x8. I have a pci and a pcie...
Which x58 motherboards either have ample space between the 2 x16 pcie slots or allow x16/x16 in an alternate config (i.e not slots 1 and 2)?
From what i've read the Asrock extreme has more spacing and the only board to support x16/x16 in two non adjacent slots is the evga 760 classified...
I'm kinda new to this area, however, I built an HTPC using the excellent guide here for reference. I was soon in the same position as you. Quickly ran out of space on the 1.5tb drive in there. So when i saw a good mobo + single core cpu deal on newegg grabbed that, combined with some cheaper 2tb...
I have the Scythe Big Shiruken (on an i3/h55 matx), it was a little tricky to install with motherboard in case due to the large overhangs, and may interfere with tall ram if its close by and in the first slot ( i have about 0.5 mm clearance), but would highly recomend it. Very very quiet...
Just out of interest what method/profile of encoding do you use? I have been playing around with some (very basic) different x264 profiles for target bitrates, 2 or 1 pass, file size etc, but have some trouble settling on a consistent one for good quality. What kind of bitrates are you getting...
Im kinda new to the HTPC thing but for now have settled on the following:
Directly from disc
BD and DVD - TMT3
From hdd
DVD (no compression) - TMT3 (with SimHD)
MKV (ripped blurays) - MPC or straight through WMC
I have PowerDVD also and to be honest the playback quality is probably a...
Well it turns out - after i downloaded a sample mkv that everything was fine. I must have got a bad encoding with the 2 i was trying. How they played fine in PDVD i'm not sure... So i tried blurip and that worked very well (would recommend this actually). Everything now plays very well using MPC...
Thanks, got TMT3 playing DVDs through MB, however i still have problems with the mkv through either MPC or straight from Media Browser. Plays at 2x rate. Stupid P-DVD plays it perfectly. I think one of the codecs is configured wrong. How do i remove them and start over without having to do a...
Thanks for clearing that up. Very good info! Makes complete sense to use MPC-HC for everything except DVDs which i'll use TMT3 for - as you described.
On a side note, as you say WMC plays the mkv file, however for me its played back at double speed, you mentioned ffdshow is the codec that...
Great, thanks for your help. I'll give it a try tonight. Sounds like i could just use TMT3 for all playback through media browser. I bought the wrong one...from the trial edition TMT3 was sharper for DVDs than WMC, but PowerDVD was probably even better. No good to me if it won't integrate nicely...
I've recently built up an HTPC and have used Crim's very helpful guide in the stickies but started to hit a couple of problems. Been googling a lot to try and find a solution but not found one yet.
First question is: How do you get PowerDVD to play Blu-ray rips (both in folder and mkv format)...
