Want to try to overclock all of my stuff, help?

I was when I typed it, but you are correct. Seems I confused the two when responding. Thanks for pointing it out, and apologies to OP for the misinformation. Amazing what a guide can do for ones OC success huh OP? *jocular nudge* Nice to see you got a solid 4GHz. I'd still be curious to see...

Want to try to overclock all of my stuff, help?

Ignore them, always go buy the BIOS. (It's not unusual for this to happen.) I use CPU-Z and have never had that issue however. Maybe see what it says. That to is normal. The only way to get the RAM to run at rated speeds is to use a BCLK that multiplies to 1600. For example my 200 BCLK (Ram...

Want to try to overclock all of my stuff, help?

QPI voltage is very important!! It's recommended you keep it within 0.5v of the DRAM voltage. (Thanks to Harry1969 for the correction.) Try lowering your vcore to 1.3v or 1.35v and raising QPI voltage to match. (If it works, you can try for lower after.) Did you manually set your RAM to...

    apply thermal paste

Or, you know, just plop a small dab in the middle (of either) and let pressure sort it out. :p It's how I do it as any other way has never shown any difference for me, period! No fuss, no muss, no mess! (If you do it right.)

Want to try to overclock all of my stuff, help?

CCC will allow up to 900MHz on the core once you unlock it. (By simply clicking a little padlock.) Or you could use MSI Afterburner for over 900MHz. (Leaving BIOS flashing for another time.) You have to manually edit the MSIAfterburner.cfg (In the install directory.) file to allow for it to...

Tessellation and the 5870. What the hell is it and should I use it?

That video is of an old build, or using 'extreme'. It now has options to lessen the effect making it look more natural, though still awkward to walk on. Indeed, tis a tech demo, nothing else. That is why it's so over exaggerated.

    Do/Don't you overclock?

Pretty much what's holding me back to. Anything much over 4.2 and it goes south fast. (4.3 = guaranteed BSOD.)

    GPU fan won't stop

I've never been a fan of default fan profiles. I use MSI Afterburner to manually set my own profile. Try it and see if it has the same issue.

Tessellation and the 5870. What the hell is it and should I use it?

Run the Heaven Benchmark for yourself, and hit F3 to toggle tessellation in real time to really see it pop. P.S. Nice to see they have continued to work on this. Tessellation now has 4 options rather than just on/off. (Disabled/Normal/Moderate/Extreme)

    Do/Don't you overclock?

As a gamer, hell ya! I gained 15+ FPS in Fallout NV going from 3.6GHz to 4.2GHz. I have yet to have an OC'd CPU or GPU go south. Seeing I build a new system every couple-few years, it really doesn't concern me. I want more (Free) power! (And I get it.) OCing is a tedious task for sure...

Can't Overclock to save my life!

What I would do; Disable Turbo mode! Increase vcore to 1.25-135v. Increase CPU PLL to 1.85-1.9v (Might want to start with QPI below first. QPI is IMPORTANT!) Match the QPI voltage with the vcore, or within 0.5v. (I think this may be your issue, but I'm simply guessing.) Good luck. P.S...

Thank you for the link. Hope they kiss and make up at some point. They both would benefit I'm sure. *shrug*

Thanks for the explanation. I hadn't known about that issue. Filtering sounds like bad blood, for something. I'd hope simply not getting a reply back is not the sole factor here. Something else must be going on, I'll assume. Though I would like some clarification. If it is now a no-no to...

    Canadian Shop

I'd like to know why it's filtered. It's not like it's a fly by night operation stealing peoples money or anything. I'll be sorely disappointed if I get penalized for trying to help a fellow Canadian find a good PC hardware site......on a hardware dedicated forum. P.S. I forgot about Dazmode...
