I picked up a used powerbook G4 on craigslist for $10 a few days ago. Its certainly far from the newest and it can't run the latest version of OSX, but it'll at least allow you to experience what a mac is like and tinker with it - for next to nothing.

Anyone else notice how the textures look sharper than what you find in most games today... and Unreal was meant to be played on a Voodoo1 with 2mb of texture memory.
The display remembers whatever brightness it was last set at. If you can find another computer to plug it into using USB, you can set the brightness there, and then bring it back to your main PC and it will stay at that brightness. Or just find someone with any mac (laptop or desktop), and do...
The Apple stores in my area are loaded with movies on the hard drive for your viewing pleasure. And even if they aren't, just head over to apple.com/trailers, and try any of the 1080p trailers there and see what happens.
You can also bring games loaded on a USB stick or portable hard drive...
Do you have an apple store nearby? If yes, just stop on by and take a look at the 27" iMacs, which have the same exact panel. You can even install stuff on them like games if you want to be really through in your inspection.

Is the space combat at least a simulation, like it was back in the Starfleet Command era games back in the 90's? You know, adjusting power between different systems, priority to repairs, etc..
The only blurring/smearing i've ever noticed is in top-down games such as Starcraft when I am panning around the map, or 2d sidescrollers; and even then its minimal. Although i'm sure its still occurring in other games as well, I have never once noticed it, nor has it detracted from the game...
