I'm in the same boat. According to this (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2368186,00.asp) article bulldozer chips won't work in existing AM3 boards. Between Intel EOLing both of their sockets, and AMD EOLing theirs, it seems like a pretty terrible time to buy.
The price is pretty good, from the reviews around the web it looks like you need the right mobo (read, can set latencies and voltages) to run these

The only way to get the uncompressed audio is via HDMI with a receiver that has the DTS-HD or TrueHD decoders or via 8 channel LPCM (bitstream with 8 rca cables) straight from nicer BD players.

Sony has been really aggressive with their high-margin TV's. A lot of times over the last month or two their XBR6 was selling less then the step down model the Z. They also were giving away free blu-ray players with 120hz tv's for most of the holiday shopping season, which Sony was giving back...
I'm waiting for a smartphone company to release a dock that plugs directly into a keyboard/mouse and monitor. A lot of smartphone's are capable of running basic windows functions, and as soon as apple or rim has 2 gui's in there phones, i'd be more than willing to ditch a PC or two.
