8 gigs (2x4GB) of decent memory and a P55 mobo with USB 3.0 for 279, 269 after MIR.

I'm in the same boat. According to this (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2368186,00.asp) article bulldozer chips won't work in existing AM3 boards. Between Intel EOLing both of their sockets, and AMD EOLing theirs, it seems like a pretty terrible time to buy.
The price is pretty good, from the reviews around the web it looks like you need the right mobo (read, can set latencies and voltages) to run these

The only way to get the uncompressed audio is via HDMI with a receiver that has the DTS-HD or TrueHD decoders or via 8 channel LPCM (bitstream with 8 rca cables) straight from nicer BD players.

Sony has been really aggressive with their high-margin TV's. A lot of times over the last month or two their XBR6 was selling less then the step down model the Z. They also were giving away free blu-ray players with 120hz tv's for most of the holiday shopping season, which Sony was giving back...
I'm waiting for a smartphone company to release a dock that plugs directly into a keyboard/mouse and monitor. A lot of smartphone's are capable of running basic windows functions, and as soon as apple or rim has 2 gui's in there phones, i'd be more than willing to ditch a PC or two.
Hot deal, but the 450 series Samsung plasma's have a tendancy for image retention. If you go in to the store check out to see if their floor model has any in the screen burn protection menu.
Suicide is a terrible thing. If you have ever talked to someone who has wanted to commit suicide (a friend of mine way back in high school), or ever talked to someone while they are commiting suicide (about 2 years ago I found a guy who had slit his throat and jumped out of a third story window...
It would never go as a purely usage based model like a regular utility. What might happen is a reduction in monthly access fee's for everyone, and then charging the heavier users more. One of my buddies got a "stop downloading so much or we will cut you off" letter from his ISP...so he stopped...
The problem with a lot of these articles is simple. Facts are few and far between, but quotes from credible sounding sources are abundant. I believe most people who visit this site would be interested in a piece of journalism with a little meat to it. Where instead of "Dr. L. Rowell Huesmann...
The short anwser is no. I've had a few hard of hearing customers and have had to do some research on this. The problem is with the hi-def connections. HDMI (and maybe component, never did the research) don't pass the closed captioning information to your TV. For BD or any HD service you have to...
The past few days my internet had been lagging (and with the release of the new WoW patch it was Very Anoying), so I decided to check to see if my neighbors were using my network. My network was setup with a basic WEP encryption and I had SSID turned off, which I figured would be good enough...
Any guesses on the price point? With the 4850 pretty easy to find at 150$ this might be a great buy at 100-110.

If/when you switch over to optical that should elimate any noise between your HTPC and the Onkyo. If you're still getting it then you might want to have the Onkyo looked at.
Didn't think I was going to post in this thread anymore, but what technologies (if any) does AMD lisense from Intel in their fab plants? The x86 liscense itself may be similar, but maybe AMD is going to make the case that Foundry Co does not liscense any Intel manufacturing processes. They keep...
Back on topic, I think it's a good move. AMD has always unloaded extra inventory at prices they can't be turning a profit on, if they could slow production down to meet demand and sell their extra fab capacity they still win.
2nd. They called the 800 SP RV770 a few months before it was released. I'm still skeptical of an average 3.6 OC on Deneb, but I'm way more interested now since it's come from them.
Wasn't real sure on retail pricing, I nabbed the 7k mark from Sony's website (http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665532062)
The Samsung 9 series and Sony XBR8's should be in local retailors by the end of the month (YMMV). It might be worth holding off to see what kind of picture you can get with them. As far as price, for the 55" LED LCD's expect to pay around 7 grand for the XBR8's and less for the Samsung. I really...

Thanks, didn't think to check the Chinese site. I went with a retail 5000+ 65 watt since heat's been an issue. Free shipping +7 dollars off and a free 2.0 gig memory stick. Best deal I found.
I'll post back when I pop it in.
My little dual core 3600+ isn't cutting it anymore and I need to upgrade my CPU. I'm trying to avoid building a whole new box, so I jumped on Biostar's website to check compatibility of new processors. It's a TForce 6100 AM2, according to the Biostar website...
That's your problem. It's only recently that TV's have supported Dolby Digital out through optical. I've never seen anything other than stereo out with coax.
