update, i did have one crash since removing the one stick of ram and failed powerbar
I recently had a hdd fail catastrophically losing all data.[luckily a new install]
Then a couple months later had a powerbar fail completely after running memtest86 for almost 11 hours the previous day to try and diagnose a long term stability problem viewing youtube and streaming other videos...
i have zero crashes in last 2.5 days and i normally would have at least 1/2 dozen in that time sometimes that many in an hour
so its looking like i dont need any new parts as my system seems to be working just fine on single stick of 4 gb ram
theres hundreds of files in the log directory, i have no idea what to look for

aparently i cant buy a replacement stick as they are only sold in pairs so if i buy more ram might as well be 2 new bigger sticks that max out out my budget or what mobo can run

i came home to a failed powerbar that was not putting out any power and had a high pitched whistle
i have been running either monster power or apc powerbars forever and recently[5 yrs ago] even went to using a surge protected ups as a second layer of protection after...
other stick failed massively after 90 minutes with 137 errors in that same slot the first stick went 10 plus hours
guess i will just use the other 4 gb stick for now and see if thats enough ram to run things properly and stable like.
if not then go shopping for a sister stick or 2 new sticks...
ok i ran a smp/multithread for;
9 passes or 10 plus hrs on one stick with zero errors
and one complete pass on the other stick with zero errors
i even accidently blocked the main 6 inch intake fan from running and interior temps went up 6 degrees c for first hour and it didnt cause any errors...

it ran memtest flawlessy for 90 minutes first time completing one full pass error free
is that enough time/runs in the first place?
so i stopped the run and i think i chose a different mode, not entirely sure as you get only 5 secs to choose before it starts...

Ive been unable to diagnose the exact problem so hoping to to just get lucky replacing hardware
What new motherboards would be compatible with all this other hardware?
