    Hm, I was a little too optimistic - the WRITE_DMA errors do show up from time to time, but not nearly as much. It happens quite often now that kde just, well, almost freezes. There aren't any error messages, at least I can't see them. I've tried looking through the logs, but I don't know...

    Funny you should say that. I replaced the Realtek card with another (Realtek, actually) network card, and it seems I don't get the WRITE_DMA errors anymore. Nor the watchdog timeout errors. We're still not friends though. I can't seem to get it working. FreeBSD I mean.

    This still doesn't make much sense to me :( But I thought I should mention that it often (but not always) accompanies a "ad4: TIMEOUT - WRITE_DMA retrying (2 retries left)", which shows up when I'm installing something (and I'm not i safe mode).
