cool, thanks. Great job putting this together.

Using VLANs with VMware Nested ESXi

I think you just want to turn on vlan trunking for the port group which will then accept vlan tags from the guest vms in that port group. In this case your nested esxi hosts. Unless I am misunderstanding what you are trying to do.

    Hyper-V vs VMware

Can you elaborate on your point about Azure site recovery? The MS documentation makes it seem like it is fairly simple to fail both to and back from the Azure cloud, so I am not sure what you mean about your VM being there to stay. I've never used it myself so I don't know if there is some...

    VMware's New Expert Certification Program

I'd say more like VCP=CCNP VCAP=??? (CCIE Written or CCDE written maybe) New Cert = CCIE VCDX >= CCDE I don't really consider CCA to be a real cert, just a really expensive ego boost

    VMware's New Expert Certification Program

I hear you on the design exam, it's much harder as a customer when you are not working on a new design every 3-4 weeks like many consultants do. Maybe vmware will address this with the new cert path? Maybe they could have 3-4 practice designs you could do and then compare to what an actual...

    Juniper switch for home use?

I use one for my home lab, and it works great. Some people would say Junos is not as user friendly as Cisco IOS, but once you learn it I find it easier and more powerful in general. There is plenty of documentation available and I think Juniper even has an IOS to Junos converter on their...

    VMware's New Expert Certification Program

@Thuleman, as a long time CCIE the job search does have a different dynamic. Having an exclusive cert does make it easier to search jobs and for recruiters to find you. But I've been to a ton of interviews where they wanted the prestige of hiring an expert level person, but didn't want to pay...

IP allocation with Auto-Deploy host profiles

So I found this blog post that looks like it solves my problem. https://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2011/09/sample-scripts-for-automating-auto-deploy.html If I am reading it correctly, it also eliminates the need for DHCP for the first nic, and will assign ip addresses and dvs portgroups without...

IP allocation with Auto-Deploy host profiles

I'm using dhcp reservations for the mgmt interface, and then manually generating the host customization after first boot when I bring the host out of maintenance mode. I guess this is what VMware is calling answer files? Is there a better way to create these answer files? I'm not sure how I'd...

IP allocation with Auto-Deploy host profiles

Having issues posting right now, so I apologize if this is a double post... I am looking for suggestions on the best way to handle IP addressing for hosts that are auto-deployed. For small deployments I have been fine with hand-jamming the addresses for the vmknics to bring the auto-deployed...

IP allocation with Auto-Deploy host profiles

I am looking for suggestions on the best way to handle IP addressing for hosts that are auto-deployed. For small deployments I have been fine with hand-jamming the addresses for the vmknics to bring the auto-deployed hosts out of maintenance mode. But looking at much larger deployments I am...

    Juniper JNCIE

+1 for Junosphere. Last time I checked I think you could get 10days of lab time for 50 bucks.

    How to rip bluray extras?

i've done it manually with handbrake by creating previews of the different tracks until I find the extras I want. definitely a PITA for discs with a ton of bonus features. If there was a way to figure out which tracks corresponded to which items that would be a big bonus.

    2 x SANs 1 x Cluster - VMware failover (automated)

But don't you just add the LIFs on the cluster to the zone? That way it is not bound to the physical hardware.

    2 x SANs 1 x Cluster - VMware failover (automated)

Would Netapp cluster mode work here? I know they can protect against a controller failure but not sure if it would be able to transparently redirect LUN access to the second SAN in the cluster. But it seems like it should be possible if you have the LUN mirrored on both SANS.
