Fan is thermally controlled. 1% < 30C, 100% > 70C. Those are the default settings.
*edit* Pulled off the HSF one----- more time and used coffee filters to clean everything with alcohol, then laid as thin a strip of AS5 as I could. This seemed to help a good amount, dropped idle temps from...
^Thanks for that Onic, that's more of the performance I was expecting. At least somebody's getting what they paid for... To answer your question, yeah, all voltages are on auto right now.
By setup, what are you referring to? I'm beginning to suspect that maybe I have a concave HSF...
Well the thing is, I'm not overclocking right now (otherwise I would have stuck this in the OC forum). I'm just concerned that this seems to be a pretty high idle temp for stock clock settings and a stock fan. Am I wrong?

So I bought the components for my rig last spring and put them all together without much though about overclocking until later. Tonight I get the fever, so I fire up the BIOS and start playing settings, get to about 2.9 Ghz and realize that I'm...
Is it worth it? This is for an e6600 system that will be watercooled (3 radiators) in the summer. I'll either get watercooled PC6400s or something with higher bus speeds (good deal on 8500s right now). Yes, the bling factor is kind of a consideration. =P

Thanks for the replies so far, I figured it would probably come down to one of these two boards (pw5 or p5b).
I read that as well, can somebody explain why?
Thanks for the responses again!

Ok, until now, I had sold myself on an eVGA 680i mobo with the intention of running SLI in the future. The more I think about it, the less likely I am to actually run SLI and just buy a new gfx card. So where does that leave me?
This will be an e6600 system with an 8800gtx, and my price...
