I would reflash the BIOS ... even if you already have the latest version. I'd also open the case and inspect the capacitors and the board for any visible damage. I'd also disconnect everything that is non-essential like the GPU, drives, anything...

Is their "auto overclocking" - running up the clock speeds to meet a thermal or power limit also just burning some out prematurely? If so, when I finally upgrade to a newer Ryzen, I may just run it in 65 watt eco mode.

Also, the tiny transistors have more leakage current and are more susceptible to damage from voltage transients, and defects which could cause failure after delivery are more likely.

all the stuff thats now in them that used to be board side, like mem controllers.

Well, so it was a bad CPU. Glad you got that machine going again. What is it with modern CPU's that makes them fail at rates unknown compared to years gone by?

Have you tried plugging in the headphones to the jack on the motherboard itself? At least that would show whether the onboard sound was kaput or not

Good luck with that! Sounds like you've covered all the bases to me. In the olden days, the odds of a bad Cpu were minimal. It was usually the board. Not anymore.

Sounds like you've been pretty thorough, but have you tried running a single stick of RAM in the 5700G computer?

I am, too. They've had months to get it right, and haven't fixed it yet. I'm pretty much done with folding until next winter anyway. If it's still giving problems, next winter means a new project.

WCG is sending me work units again, but nothing has been validating for 2 days. More unintended bunkering. I'm taking advantage of an over-the-night cold snap to fold again.

You Canadians are really lucky to have this folding advantage over us. I might just move up there to join in.

Pretty sure we've had new all time highs for at least three days out of the past week and a half or so.

All right guys time for me to switch to Canadian. Was -11C when I went to work this morning but sun came out and it got up to 6C. It'll only get up to -1C tomorrow (~30F) and theres chances of more snow maybe in a few days but it should improve...

Good stuff but winter ended early? had almost a foot of snow yesterday and about 3-4 inches this morning. Sun's out this afternoon but I'm not taking my winter tires off for a few weeks yet...

Heh, it was 95F here today. Quite a bit warmer than usual for the end of March. Don't normally hit temps like this before June or July.

Jherek replied to the thread WCG?.
We had an all-time record here for the whole of March. Hit 94. Crazy. That's higher than the historical average for July.

For the last two days a good number have been validating. If it keeps up like this for a couple weeks, all the backlog might be cleared up. Been really getting frustratted at the promises to get WCG running properly, but am fairly optimistic at...
