New laptop randomly going to lock screen

Before I start a support ticket to return a "new" laptop, I thought I'd try to see if I'm crazy or can find a work around.

I just got a refurb acer and when typing, it randomly goes to the lock screen. When it's occasional, it's not a big deal, but it'll go through fits of jumping to the lock screen every time I touch the keyboard.

The keyboard could be a red herring here. I only used it a few hours now, but I'm ready to throw it out a window. Lol.

It's not some new weird windows 11 security feature is it?

Not that I've seen. I have 4 Win11 boxes and none of them do that... unless maybe it's some new bug was introduced last patch Tuesday (meaning the day before yesterday - It's Thursday 9/10 and patch Tuesday was 9/8) that I haven't seen yet?

Have you tried wiping and reloading it? I wouldn't use a refurb without wiping & reloading the OS. Never know who did what to it.
 
Check if anything like the power button? is set to go to the lock screen, and maybe the power button is getting pushed a lot?

Anyway, try using an external keyboard and see if it does the same thing or not.

also stop pressing windows-L while typing ;)
 
Well, I ended up swapping for another (acer said it was the only option and I was worried about price increase) and I have the same problem after setting it up. Looks like me removing all extra stuff like Copilot and o365 made Microsoft mad. 🤷🤦
 
I'd second Zandor's advice above: a full Windows re-install - not using whatever disc Acer may have bundled with it, but a generic Windows 11 downloaded from the Microslop website. It might well be that some of the bloatware built into that Acer isn't working with that specific model.

Unless you need cloud storage, I'd set it up with a local account. It's easy enough during the installation, and is better for security.

Can you even do a local account with win 11?

I'll Google it. The clean build idea is pretty good.
 
It could very well be developing dram issues or the drive. One freezing is quite common continue to restart with windows and see if it throws an OcX100000 code that is dram error.
