Remove all peripherals and HDD/DVD drive. If the problem still persists, I would guess it is the memory or northbridge.
I did have a similar problem with a Dell laptop once though where it seemed to hang indefinitely at the BIOS also. Surprisingly though, pulling the battery out, draining the...
Thanks Kueller! Glad to hear that there aren't any major issues with refurbished drives yet.
What about improvements with an SSHD? Newegg had a good deal on a new Seagate 1TB SSHD this weekend, and it would make the process of migrating a lot easier while allowing me to keep my DVD drive.
I...
When you say "come back on during normal activities and gameplay" do you mean that it comes back on to where you left off or completely reboots? Have you tried safe mode or another OS (Linux live distro)?
I think an ULV or Ultrabook would be a good option too. Also, I was thinking that if you really wanted eSATA, an option is to get this Kanex adapter and look at the Lenovo Thinkpad W540 or a Macbook Air.
eSATA is getting considerably harder to find on laptops nowadays :/ I was in a similar dilemma to yours, looking to upgrade without losing eSATA. Ended up choosing the Toshiba Tecra A50, but the battery life is merely so-so and I have a feeling it will be too big for you.
Are you looking for a...
Well I guess it has come to this... I have no choice but to get a SSD now
I'm still a little worried about what sort of real-world performance increase not keeping every single document and file on the SSD will bring. But you guys have convinced me enough that I will see enough of a...
Loved my SRH440s, the soundstage and clarity was impecabbly precise. Then I upgraded to the SRH840 model, and it just blew everything away. The stage is twice as wide now, and the bass response improved a lot. More comfortable too! Keep in mind though that I use an audio interface to power and...
Thanks guys,
Unfortunately I can't afford to replace every single moving part in my laptop with solid state. I maxed out my budget with this laptop, and that means that when I say I'm looking for an SSD, I'm looking at used 128GB Crucial M4 or Kingston SSDNow drives. That's really the best I can...
Hey guys,
I recently bought a new Toshiba Tecra A50-A1550 laptop with an i5-4200M. Runs Windows 7 pro, upgraded to 16GB DDR3 1600MHz and a Seagate 1TB 5400RPM. My friend recently added a SSD for the OS to his desktop, and has been boasting about the performance increases on his system since.
He...
Donate them, or I use them for file backup servers. Instant, hassle-free backups, really gives you no excuse not to have them. FTP is easiest, otherwise if you can't open ports on your router or don't have a static IP, use something like Bittorrent Sync or GoodSync.
A webserver is a good idea...
Pentium CPUs aren't really superb for anything more than email and word processing these days. Definitely shoot for at least 2nd gen i5, 8gb DDR3 1600mhz, and I would even up the GPU if you have the money.
Price range? Take a look at Toshiba Tecra Z50 or W50, both have backlit keyboards. Trackpads are average, but tbh you will be hard pressed to find a trackpad as good as Apple's.
Easiest option is to do as Duderino suggested, check and see if your mobo is compatible. Otherwise, you will have to find a power source either by pulling it off of a USB port or soldering a connector to the motherboard.
I use clonezilla to replace hard drives on a regular basis. Super easy, just download the amd64 version, boot, and select disk to local disk.
Also – unrelated to Clonezilla – you may have to switch your BIOS and OS into AHCI mode, plus turn off defragging and a few other things.
