An artsy Workstation Rig looking for few good man!

Too bad about the case. My recommendation for the Z820 came off getting it locally. Also are you really planning on doing sensitive graphics/video work in a VM? I've never heard of anyone doing so and it sounds interesting. Any experience/issues with it?

An artsy Workstation Rig looking for few good man!

I know that this might be anti-[H], but have you looked at getting a workstation from one of the big vendors? I'm saying this because if your livelyhood depends on it, you should consider the warranty and repairs benefits that it offers. This is especially worrying if you say you will be getting...

    5,184 x 3,456 Resolution 18MP Canon Camera

One more thought. The NVIDIA NVS 450, it's cheaper than the w600, but only supports up to four monitors. The upside is that it is DisplayPort (wheras the W600 is Mini-DisplayPort) so you won't need adapters if your displays accept DisplayPort natively. Running four 2560 x 1600 displays =...

    5,184 x 3,456 Resolution 18MP Canon Camera

You would need multiple cards. From the link you gave: Systems using multiple ATI Radeon™ graphics cards can support a maximum of 8 displays (total across all cards in system) with a maximum 6 of those displays being used together in a display group (also known as a single large surface...

    5,184 x 3,456 Resolution 18MP Canon Camera

The AMD w600 supports up to six Mini DisplayPort monitors at massive resolutions. I understand that you won't be doing GPU intensive work (I don't think lightroom makes use of it?), so there is no need to go for the much more high end w9000.

Which portrait mode monitors next to 30" LCD

Does anybody know if the 2007FP panel lottery is still on? The lottery thread has not been updated in a while, so I am wondering if anybody knows if it is still on. The basic question is, if I were to buy a new (eg: revision A12) 2007fp, is there still a risk of getting the PVA pannel?

Which Apple laptop for web development?

Agreed, however I suggested the Air since he already has a desktop. No computer makes noise running a text editor. With photoshop is processing something and when compiling you will hear it. I assume that you actually need a laptop, but otherwise have you thought about a mini or even to...

Which Apple laptop for web development?

I don't imagine that you will be doing any heavy photoshoping when working on websites, so the 13" air will be fine. The retina is cool and all, but if you have a workstation already then there is no point.

    Dell U3011 coming soon.

The text will be VERY blurry if you are not in native resolution. Depending on what laptop you have, text will be similarly sharp. Let us know how it goes with the new card.

    Dell U3011 coming soon.

European u3011 owner here: picked mine up on Friday (REV A08). I don't understand why you want to buy this monitor from the USA when they are available all over Europe. You realise that when you buy something from the states: - Shipping charges are insane - There is an increased damage of...

    Dell U3011 coming soon.

I just ordered this monitor and have since gotten a call from the company selling them if I would like to extend the three year warranty to a six year. The price of the extension is pretty steep (would add ~20% to the price of the monitor), and so I come asking how you guys feel about it? The...

    My First Worksation(ish)

Thanks for the feedback again. I've actually decided to go with the X79 PRO, due to it not having fans and it's slightly bigger connectivity offerings. For the price difference between it and the Sabertooth, I can extend the warranty to 4 years. Another thing that I noticed is that the...

    My First Worksation(ish)

Dear extide, Dear Danny, Thank you. With your feedback, I have reworked the original build in the post and now have the following: Things that I'm quite certain of: Case - Corsair 550D Processor - i7-3930K Cooling - Noctua NH-D14 Video - Radeon HD 7850 Gigabyte Memory - Corsair...

    My First Worksation(ish)

extide, Thanks for your highly informative and quick response. Some comments from me: Interesting read, I was not aware of the existence of the FirePro W600, but have since looked at an interesting an interview. I also noted that on the AMD site, it is possible to download specific addons...

    My First Worksation(ish)

So I've been lurking on and off [H] for some years, might even have a forgotten account somewhere, but have finally decided it's time to do a build. I was so disappointed by the ‘update’ that the MacPro went through and the fact that Mountain Lion seems to only add features that make...
