Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
I was worried about read/write contention on the HHDs, but I guess it's safe to say this won't be a problem. :) Thanks for the input.
As for the setup itself... apart from the PVR-150, the two 300GB drives, and about $75 of misc parts, this was all put together from spare stuff lying around.
Sorry, that was a little vague.
The plan is to put Client 1 in the living room, hooked up to a 32" SDTV via s-video, and access pre-recorded shows stored on Server 1 through the network. I'll also have a regular cable box connected for watching live TV.
Server 1 will just hang out in my...
Okay, so here's my setup:
Server
P4, 1.7 Ghz
512 RDRAM
40GB IDE HDD for O/S
2x300GB 7200 RPM SATA HDDs for content (RAID 0)
PVR-150
LAN cable to router.
Client 1
P4, 1.5 Ghz
256 RDRAM
40GB IDE HDD for O/S
G-wireless
Client 2
Dell laptop (no details, roommate's computer)...
I am recording TV using a P4 1.7 Ghz, 256 RAM, and a PVR-150. All the computer does is record TV, but it works just fine. I can also watch already-recorded shows from a network-attached laptop while another show is being recorded without any trouble.
Oops, yeah sorry, I meant RDRAM. I know it's not ideal, but it's cheap, I have it, and it serves its purpose. If I ever decide to expand sometime in the future I'll be building from the ground up.
Okay, thanks. I haven't done any hardware stuff in a while and it all sounded too damn easy.
I'm leaning towards the FSP because it's cheap and sounds okay quality-wise (based on this thread).
It will be powering this:
Intel 850
P4 1.7 Ghz
512MB DDR RAM
40GB IDE HDD for O/S...
Okay, so I read all through the sticky's and calculated my power needs to be ~325W.
The question I have is... will this PSU fit in this case and work with this motherboard?
I just got into this myself, so I'll throw in what I bought:
PVR-150
BeyondTV 4
It went into a Dell Dimension 8100, P4 1.7Ghz, 256 RDRAM and it works fine for recording TV, although that's all I really do with it. The PVR-150 has hardware encoding so CPU usage is very low. I recently...
Yeah it sure is... I just picked it up and haven't really tinkered with it much yet. The past few years I've been spoiled/lazy/disinterested in computer games and just used the Thinkpad my job provides me with. Now that I've gotten into the PVR thing I actually need a real PC at home.
So...
I was given a Dell Dimension 8100 by a friend and am turning it into a HTPC. Here are the specs:
P4 1.7 Ghz
256MB DDR RAM
40GB IDE HD for O/S
120GB IDE HD for data
GeForce MX 4400? video card
Some SoundBlaster card
I bought a video capture card, starting recording TV shows, and...
