I keep my 2 rigs (8x 7970) hashing on betarigs, power cost is about 40-50% of what they make so it's worth keeping them going. The cards paid themselves back long ago and aren't worth much on the second hand market anymore.
There were plenty of mediocre Sandys out there. I personally wanted to really get 5 GHz and it took me 2 2600k and 2 2700k chips before I sort of got there. Never quite prime95 stable 24/7 but good enough to use. That's with a custom water loop. More Sandys topped around 4.8 than 5+ imho.
I didn't change anything in the config file, that's just what came with the miner and when I ran it the numbers were in line with what they should be.
The bat file I have uses -I 20 -g 4 -w 128
I actually run GPU0 at -I 18 for 3MH and GPU1 at -I 20 for 3.1 MH.
No extra powertune required...
Good job telling everyone about it :D I think the window of opportunity here is going to be quite short. Right now X11 is pretty damn poor in terms of reward and X13 is basically just another download away. The market for X13 rigs is pretty small right now, even with the best priced rig it can...
If one remembers the previous bitcoin bubble, while BTC was doing ATH after ATH the alts were losing ground considerably, LTC bottomed out well below 0.01 IIRC. Only after some considerably delay did the Alts start to fly, possibly in part because people who missed the BTC boat were piling into...
My 7970s see a 50% gain
No noticeable increase in power consumption. A 4x7970 rig underclocked and undervolted now does 12.25 MH. VRM power as shown in HWinfo is around 50W GPU and 20W memory. Real power consumption is a bit more I suppose but still very impressive. 7970s seem slightly...
Yeah much better to buy a card used for "gaming" inside a case that ran 95C on the GPU and over 100 on the VRM's, obviously.
Improper cooling is what can kill a card, I've never seen anything else do it. I have been running 15 GPUs for about 2 years straight now, and the failure rate is...
I think X11 is interesting because it shows that PoW doesn't necessarily needs to consume a shitton of electricity. Cards run cooler, power on my rigs is about 40% less which is pretty huge really. Someone should make some kind of environmental themed coin along these lines but tweaked for the...
High VRM temps also uses/wastes considerably more power. They're just less efficient. Don't understand how these companies don't pay at least some attention to the VRMs. The reference coolers are terrible for cooling and noise but even they get good VRM temps. Clearly it's something AMD...
Or you just ignore all that hard work and use the latest ATI winflash. I've probably used it 30-40 times on several different machines recently and it always worked flawlessly and a lot more convenient. And since all these cards have dual BIOS, even if it does go wrong, you just flip a switch...
