Good riddance to those asshats. One less bitcoin noobtrap.

    X11, X13, and now..... X22!

Yup, just swapped one rig over and sold it almost immediately for 48h at 0.002/MH Hashrate is only about 15% below X13 on my 290s

    Is GPU completly dead?

I keep my 2 rigs (8x 7970) hashing on betarigs, power cost is about 40-50% of what they make so it's worth keeping them going. The cards paid themselves back long ago and aren't worth much on the second hand market anymore.

Intel Devil's Canyon: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly @ [H]

There were plenty of mediocre Sandys out there. I personally wanted to really get 5 GHz and it took me 2 2600k and 2 2700k chips before I sort of got there. Never quite prime95 stable 24/7 but good enough to use. That's with a custom water loop. More Sandys topped around 4.8 than 5+ imho.

    X13

I didn't change anything in the config file, that's just what came with the miner and when I ran it the numbers were in line with what they should be. The bat file I have uses -I 20 -g 4 -w 128 I actually run GPU0 at -I 18 for 3MH and GPU1 at -I 20 for 3.1 MH. No extra powertune required...

    X13 price skyrocketed on betarigs

Good job telling everyone about it :D I think the window of opportunity here is going to be quite short. Right now X11 is pretty damn poor in terms of reward and X13 is basically just another download away. The market for X13 rigs is pretty small right now, even with the best priced rig it can...

    The Altcoin Thread

If one remembers the previous bitcoin bubble, while BTC was doing ATH after ATH the alts were losing ground considerably, LTC bottomed out well below 0.01 IIRC. Only after some considerably delay did the Alts start to fly, possibly in part because people who missed the BTC boat were piling into...

new X11 kernel / 25-30% increase in perf with no power increase

My 7970s see a 50% gain  No noticeable increase in power consumption. A 4x7970 rig underclocked and undervolted now does 12.25 MH. VRM power as shown in HWinfo is around 50W GPU and 20W memory. Real power consumption is a bit more I suppose but still very impressive. 7970s seem slightly...

    The Altcoin Thread

Yeah much better to buy a card used for "gaming" inside a case that ran 95C on the GPU and over 100 on the VRM's, obviously. Improper cooling is what can kill a card, I've never seen anything else do it. I have been running 15 GPUs for about 2 years straight now, and the failure rate is...

    The Altcoin Thread

I think X11 is interesting because it shows that PoW doesn't necessarily needs to consume a shitton of electricity. Cards run cooler, power on my rigs is about 40% less which is pretty huge really. Someone should make some kind of environmental themed coin along these lines but tweaked for the...

Why do theR9 290(X) reference and custom cooler cards have the same video outpts

Most of the cards are still only a custom cooler on a reference PCB. So that explains the outputs on those.
  14. J

No surprise here, XFX 290 DD VRM temps over 100c at stock volts

High VRM temps also uses/wastes considerably more power. They're just less efficient. Don't understand how these companies don't pay at least some attention to the VRMs. The reference coolers are terrible for cooling and noise but even they get good VRM temps. Clearly it's something AMD...

    Flashing R9 290x bios?

Or you just ignore all that hard work and use the latest ATI winflash. I've probably used it 30-40 times on several different machines recently and it always worked flawlessly and a lot more convenient. And since all these cards have dual BIOS, even if it does go wrong, you just flip a switch...

    BTC back over $600

I bought a bunch of BTC yesterday and today at 540-550 and put them straight into GoxBTC at .36-.37 per coin. They went to .5-.6 a few hours ago while BTC went to 600 so if I cash out now I did pretty well today. But I guess I'll do double or nothing and wait to see if Gox can get their ****...

Realistically, can you make money mining without a huge investment

The more you put in the more you can get out, although right now probably isn't the ideal time to start up with hardware prices what they are, and profitability is a bit down (still pretty good though) If you start small, you're probably best off trying to get in on some new coin launches...

The coins are fighting back (and against the threat of ASICs) plenty of alternative algo coins out there that are well profitable to mine and entirely out of reach for the locust swarms.

    New Coin Thread

I like everything about it except the difficulty and exchange rate. Keeps the GPUs much cooler, uses less power...unfortunately it works out at only 0.10 BTC per day for me while I'm making 0.15-0.20 per day with UTC. I like UltraCoin. Like DarkCoin it's ASIC resistant, currently GPU...

    GTX750Ti... wait a sec...

In theory perhaps, not so much in practice. You need too many mobo slots to equal the hashrate which means much more overhead. It's also not really viable at 150$+ per card. It does however indicate that perhaps when the high end cards get this architecture, nVidia could be the ones with...

    Bitcoin what?

No it doesn't. No more than gold, anyway. These things are traded on an exchange. The value fluctuates (it can go up, down, sideways) according to supply and demand. It may be a bubble, but it cannot be a pyramid scheme because that would require an entity with central control over bitcoin and...

    What are you mining with?

Interesting stuff. Hopefully he'll find a fix, it bugs the hell out of me to have Elpida 290s when there are "golden" Hynix cards out there. OT: I run 9x 7970 and 3x 290 for 8.7 MH total. All are underclocked and undervolted (except memory) for maximum efficiency. I'm not chasing max hash...

Who has ordered one of the Scrypt mining ASICS?

Scrypt mining will soon by done by more efficient devices than GPUs, but there's no need to despair just yet for GPU miners. I reckon we'll still be mining profitably for at least the rest of this year. After that, altcoins with different algorhytms will probably become more dominant while a few...

MSI Z87 Mpower --> ripping my hair out

Just to update, I did solve the problem eventually and the board is running quite OK now. I flashed to the latest beta BIOS someone on the MSI forums linked to (not on MSI dl page) and I flashed a different BIOS onto the 290 and suddenly, all was well. The only issue now is with that #/!é"$...

MSI Z87 Mpower --> ripping my hair out

No I'm running UEFI+Legacy currently. UEFI only will need a reinstall. Either way, I would not even get into the BIOS to change that setting with a GPU in the system so I'm doubtful it would make much of a difference.

MSI Z87 Mpower --> ripping my hair out

Not using secure boot, i'm on W8 currently. Not like the OS has much influence on the GPU not initializing for POST of course. I've tried several cards, 2 R9 290s with different BIOSes, a 7970 and 6950.... same :(

MSI Z87 Mpower --> ripping my hair out

Yes, already configured that way, and initialization is set to PEG. Just flashed to yet another BIOS version (1.5) but doesn't appear to have changed anything still.

MSI Z87 Mpower --> ripping my hair out

Flashing from within the BIOS was unsuccessful (hard locks) but using the MSI forum recommended flash tool on a bootable USB was successful. I'm on version 1.7, which performs identically to 1.0 which the board came with. It has a dual BIOS so I can switch between them and I cant' tell them...

MSI Z87 Mpower --> ripping my hair out

OK so after a bunch of ASUS boards I went with MSI for a change. Looked decent in the reviews and I wanted a change. Quite regretting it so far. This thing makes no sense to me. I upgraded from Z68 & 2700k to this board and 4770k. Mostly because I wanted a few more PCIe slots. First and most...

Miners! Causing R290 R290X to be Overpriced

I did say newer cards, not one that got snagged for cheap at EOL. Still, it'll be a while before anyone loses money on a 7950 that only cost 150. I bought my 7970s used for 250 bucks before the boom and they're long paid for, profitability would need to drop down to less than 10 dollars per day...

Miners! Causing R290 R290X to be Overpriced

Well low risk isn't no risk obviously, but you might be overestimating the drop in risidual value of the cards if the currencies implode. Sure they'll be 100 below fair value for a while instead of above like now, but especially if you bought newer cards like the 290 series you wouldn't lose...

Miners! Causing R290 R290X to be Overpriced

True, but what makes mining attractive is the low risk. Putting a bunch of your hard earned money into something that might go poof tomorrow is not as attractive (particularly to people who like to fiddle with hardware) as making less profit with a piece of hardware that has considerable value...

Is it possible to manually force a graphics driver reset on a Radeon?

The switch user (rather than log off) is what you want, your open progams are preserved and the process takes a few seconds. Mind you, a driver reset is not always 100 percent successful for solving issues, I find it takes care of most but sometimes a hard reboot is the only option. That's...

AMD Radeon R9 290X Retail Performance Variance Review @ [H]

Pretty sure the power limit is too marginal to account for silicon variance. Some GPU chips draw more power than others. I have 10 7970s at identical settings and you see up to 20 watts difference between them. And that's undervolted, the differences can be bigger at stock volts. Same with CPUs...

Crashes switching from gaming to mining and vice versa
