I'd actually also be interested in a fix for this. I have an E6600 with a P695 Asus board and get the exact same error, it hangs after the line on mounting boot file system. Since I'm a linux noob, I can't really diagnose any of it, so I was hoping if anyone has gotten it to work, how they did...
Probably printed those prices before they realized they could gouge their customers...

I'm looking to get a 7900GT but am unsure the current situation is about those faulty ram chips. Was it a majority of the cards or just a small minority? Is the only one that is sure to not have any issues the evga reloaded version? or has there been a recall of some sort and all are more or...
