    YouTube Updates Its Strike System

Very, very true. Capitalism is still the better system we ever came up with, but it's not perfect and needs checks and bounds, otherwise it simply devolves into pure greed (the exact reason behind the 2008 global economic crisis, which was caused by too much deregulation). All you need to do to...

Connect Optane 905p to CPU or to MB chipset PCIe slot?

So very true! I still remember when the next CPU generation was measured in jumps from 33 Mhz to 50 Mhz (486 DX-33 to 486 DX2-50) and that puny 17 Mhz jump would make a VERY REAL difference (my very first CPU was a Z80 on a ZX Spectrum running at 3.5 Mhz). We are talking Mhz here, not Ghz...

Connect Optane 905p to CPU or to MB chipset PCIe slot?

Ok, for the sake of anyone who might be wondering the same thing as me and runs into this thread in the future: I tried it and it's not worth it. At all. As an Intel tech correctly pointed out, regardless of anything else the limits are in the drive itself. According to CrystalDiskMark 6.0.2...

Any reason to get a RAID card for an EVGA SR-2 in 2019?

Get an APC or any other good UPS. I ran a pair of Intel SSDs in RAID 0 (software) for 6 years and never had any problems despite several power failures (thanks to the UPS, of course). Either way, I also do daily *automated* (that's the key here, or you WILL forget and you know how Murphy's law...

Any other Cooler Master C700M owners here?

Thanks for the reply... :) I actually solved the problem in the mean time by moving the fan all the way to the back (I had left a 2" gap when I installed it for the first time).

Connect Optane 905p to CPU or to MB chipset PCIe slot?

LOL! True, but you will still be looking at it for far longer than me. ;-)

Connect Optane 905p to CPU or to MB chipset PCIe slot?

Well, depends on what you do with it, as you said. Alas, most applications (and most tasks) are still single threaded, so for those it really doesn't matter how many cores a CPU has, but rather how fast EACH core is. And, for the moment at least, it seems we are stuck with 5Ghz for a long time...

Any other Cooler Master C700M owners here?

Did you already try replacing the original fans in the case with something else? And, if so, have you already tried running them at full speed? I replaced all the original fans with some Cooler Master ARGB 140mm fans, and installed an extra one at the top as exhaust (to mimic the configuration...

Connect Optane 905p to CPU or to MB chipset PCIe slot?

Well, that's how I left it, at least for now (busy installing some Cooler Master ARGB fans, waiting for extension cables from Amazon, overclocking the system so it remains stable even in Prime95 small FFT without melting the 9900K, etc)... couldn't even get a straight answer from Intel's own...

Connect Optane 905p to CPU or to MB chipset PCIe slot?

Thanks for the reply! Just because you don't 'feel it', doesn't mean it isn't there though. :) Plus, keep in mind that the Optane's strong point is 4K reads and writes, this is what makes it stand head and shoulders above the other SSDs. I would thus imagine that the lower the latency is, the...

Connect Optane 905p to CPU or to MB chipset PCIe slot?

So, I just got my new system: 4K monitor, Intel 9900K, Asus Maximus Formula XI, 32GB RAM, Asus Strix 2080ti, Intel Optane 905p 980GB NVMe, Samsung 970 EVO 2TB M2. Currently the Optane is placed in the lower x16 PCIe slot that is connected to the motherboard chipset, running at x4 mode as it...

Star Control: Origins Has Been Removed from Stores Due to DMCA Take Down Notice

I can only hope that Paul and Fred get sued for everything they have. What a pair of opportunistic good-for-nothing clowns.

New Anti-Tamper Tech, Valeora, Debuts in City Patrol: Police

I didn't mean to accuse YOU of anything, I quoted several people and was debating the arguments presented. The 'you' in that phrase was a generalization, sorry if I didn't make that clear - in retrospect I should have used 'people' instead of 'you', my apologies. Read the article I linked to...

New Anti-Tamper Tech, Valeora, Debuts in City Patrol: Police

It really doesn't matter what the percentages are (and they depend from game to game, software to software) *someone* is always going to deny them because it's convenient for them. The world of piracy is filled with self-serving excuses. I'm not a games dev but I am a Windows utility software...

Flickering across screen with my Raedon 5870 when overclocking

The flickering happens because of the different power saving modes coupled with stupid bugs in the driver: These cards have 3 different 'speeds' to save power: minimum, medium and full, and automatically switch modes whenever necessary. Each of these three modes applies to GPU speed as well as...
