Windows 7 Beta 1 - Almost there... almost...

From my Beta invite: It is my understanding that a beta release to the general public will occur later in January. I was really hoping to have the latest before Christmas, so that I do some serious playing with the OS during my down-time from work. Oh, well...

    VM in WHS?

Go to http://www.wegotserved.co.uk/. There is a wiki on how to set it up and several people who have done. Check it out and ask your questions.

Why so many don't like Vista ?

Does anyone remember when XP first came out? HW support was about where Vista was when it was first launched. I remember I had a stand-alone scanner. It was never supported in XP. When it comes to scanner manufacturerers, nothing has changed. If it is VERY recent model, i.e. still in...

That has got to be the cleanest computer desk I have ever seen!

    Windows Home Server

Graphics card: not needed unless your BIOS requires one. WHS could care less whether you have a graphics card. The HP MediaSmart Server (and other commercial solutions, iirc) do not have one. MB/HD Dies: Any data on your pooled drives is just like any other HD w/data. You can pop it in another...

    Spaceman's alternative to "pc speakers"

Just for the record, the "old" days: Separate "Pre-amp" + "Power Amp" as a single unit = "Integrated Amp" Separate "Integrated Amp" + "Tuner" = "Receiver" (all-in-one solution) This was, of course, the 2.0 days. Bi-amping and subwoofers were "exotic" extras. :)

    Spaceman's alternative to "pc speakers"

I went to a HT receiver and REAL speakers some time ago. Are they best? Hell, no! But to paraphrase spaceman: "trust me they sound better" than any Logitech ever made! :p

    Free multimeter for catalog request

I wonder what the term "qualify" means? No where does it say you will get one. Looks nice but I think I will pass on this one.

My stupidity ... killed my radiator

    TRENDnet gb switch $10

I don't need one cause I already have 1 of these. Works like it is supposed to and is VERY cool (as in not warm) running.

My stupidity ... killed my radiator

Don't worry, you're not the only one. At least mine was "only" a Black Ice GT stealth 240! ;) I really didn't like it that much anyway. I replaced it with a Swiftech MCR-220.

I'm sick of listening to people bash Vista in the IT world

I use a high-end CAD system at work. The developers have optimized it for use in XP. In their development of a Vista version, the latest I have heard is that they experience an ~ 40% decrease in performance. Simply because Vista wants ALL code to talk to it 1st, not directly to the HW. I...
