From my Beta invite:
It is my understanding that a beta release to the general public will occur later in January. I was really hoping to have the latest before Christmas, so that I do some serious playing with the OS during my down-time from work. Oh, well...
Does anyone remember when XP first came out? HW support was about where Vista was when it was first launched. I remember I had a stand-alone scanner. It was never supported in XP. When it comes to scanner manufacturerers, nothing has changed. If it is VERY recent model, i.e. still in...
Graphics card: not needed unless your BIOS requires one. WHS could care less whether you have a graphics card. The HP MediaSmart Server (and other commercial solutions, iirc) do not have one.
MB/HD Dies: Any data on your pooled drives is just like any other HD w/data. You can pop it in another...
Just for the record, the "old" days:
Separate "Pre-amp" + "Power Amp" as a single unit = "Integrated Amp"
Separate "Integrated Amp" + "Tuner" = "Receiver" (all-in-one solution)
This was, of course, the 2.0 days. Bi-amping and subwoofers were "exotic" extras. :)
I went to a HT receiver and REAL speakers some time ago. Are they best? Hell, no! But to paraphrase spaceman: "trust me they sound better" than any Logitech ever made!
:p
Don't worry, you're not the only one.
At least mine was "only" a Black Ice GT stealth 240! ;)
I really didn't like it that much anyway. I replaced it with a Swiftech MCR-220.
I use a high-end CAD system at work. The developers have optimized it for use in XP. In their development of a Vista version, the latest I have heard is that they experience an ~ 40% decrease in performance. Simply because Vista wants ALL code to talk to it 1st, not directly to the HW.
I...
Installed just fine on my "production" server. I can now backup my Vista 64 machine, which is very nice. The only problem I had was with some poorly written add-ins (using undocumented features). Easy fix, tho.
Installed the connector SW on a Vista 64, Vista 32 and XP home machine, w/o a...
Stab in the dark: failing memory or PSU.
First thing to do is drop any OC and go back to stock CPU and mem clocks. That just might do it.
Assuming that fails, start testing your sticks. Do a search on memtest for the correct procedures.
I'm not sure how you test a PSU, tho.
I like the taken out of context. Full quote:
It is funny that all I ever hear is that x-fi has "EAX 5.0". How many games actually support it? It seems that even CL does not want anyone to know how many games support "EAX 5.0", as their website...
I have an HP C6280 AIO that works nicely with Vista x64 USB and/or networked to Vista and XP machines.
USB to get the scan/mem cards and networked for basic print functions. It actually has a decent paper tray unlike some of the other cheap HP's that jam all the time. Individual color ink...
I have this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816701005 in a Coolermaster 534 case. This is for use in my WHS machine. It has drive trays and the tray bars are available in red and black, also.
The fan is somewhat noisy, also. I set it on "low" and it is not too bad...
My suggestion:
1. Buy a decent internal HD
2. Buy a decent external enclosure
From what I have seen for prices of "external" drives, my suggestion above is the cheaper and better way to go.
Just my 2 cents.;)
meh. I just used mine and it went thru without a problem.
Anyway, we'll see if it comes in 4, 6, 8....weeks or so.
As usual, I will forget all about it. Hopefully I will get surprised!:p
I 2nd this one. I have one of these and it worked great. The only downside is that it is fanless, if one considers that a problem. It is an open frame, which helps in circulating air thru the drive. I replaced it with 4in3, as I needed more hot-swap bays. The new one also has active...
I have a MSI 8600GT that was in the machine that I installed WHS on. Overkill, but the way it goes.
I had never installed the nVidia drivers, but I just tried it and they installed just fine.
Are you trying to use the ATI install program only? If it does not want to install the drivers because it is finding an "incompatible" OS, try to install the drivers from the Device Manger by pointing to the install directory, C:\ATI IIRC.
I had to do this for my HP printer. The install...
Ha Ha. XP came out... when? That would be IE.... 3?
I know MS is slow at time but we are up to version 7 of IE, which does have tabbed browsing.
You're just looking for a way to bypass your work rules. Gee, why do you need to access your PVR from work. Real productive time spent there on...
Yes, each Vista DVD has all the different "flavors" on them. Your key tells the DVD which version to install, if you decide to enter the key during install.
Correct. It's just that XP and Server 2003 drivers share alot in common, so the XP drivers work (99% of the time?) for systems/hardware that were designed for XP for use with WHS.
Be forwarned that Vista and Creative working together is a crap shoot. It may or may not install correctly. In addition, the default Creative drivers give you VERY limited features in Vista. You will need Daniel_k's drivers for use with Vista and the Audigy. Also, you will need to add...
In most cases, there will be no server drivers for your setup, unless the machine started out as real server.
Vista drivers will not work. Server 2008 drivers will not work. In most cases, XP drivers will work just fine.
How do I know? I have WHS and that is my experience.
Can you do a restore back to the point just before you installed the x-fi? If so, problem should be solved.
If not, make sure you have nuked ALL the Creative junk. You may have to use DriverCleaner (not sure of the spelling) to make sure you have nuked it all. Otherwise, you may never...
Well, the unfortunate thing about Vista and Creative is that some get their Creative cards to install just fine, and some don't.
It seems to be a crap shoot concerning this combination. Throw the card into a XP machine and hope it works. Use your onboard or another brand for your Vista...
Uh. I think you should have disabled it from the BIOS before trying the x-fi.
Disable the on-board in the BIOS, then try the x-fi. You might just better luck that way.
The 560's have the normal 1/8 plugs the would normally go into the sound card. They go from there to the "black box" volume control. The cable to the sub looks something like a s-video plug.
So the easiest way to interface to the sub is to just use an existing Z560 1/8" plug and run it thru...
