I am about 20-25 miles from the towers without...
Why not?
This is not an "audiophile" solution, but it is pretty damn good audio for what you are getting. I already made the switch and very happy with the quality of audio from this. With the new f/w coming, it should be even better.
DIY? Board is available on Newegg.
Pre Built, check the blog...there was a write up a while back about vendors selling this system.

Well, it disipates about 10-12W of power under load, however it is driving almost 50V across the power rail. That is what delivers the 100W out to the speakers.
Seriously, have you seen the heatsinks on a class A and AB amps?
Please, this tiny heatsink is nothing compared to the bricks...
While I agree DTS Master would be nice, I am witholding judgement on it until I can hear it first hand. I am not sure there is going to be a real, noticable impact. I think for most it will be a check box sort of requirement, not a dramatic improvement in audio performance.
I am not saying...
Hmm, could that be because that is the POWER STAGE of the amplifer so it is cooling down the voltage regulators and power rails?????
The D2Audio chip is down on the board. If you don't understand class D amplifier design, perhaps you should not be drawing conclusions regarding the technology.
The cablecard (aka OCUR) is essentially a TV Tuner card with the decryption engine for cable channels.
Therefore, like any TV Tuner card, 1 tuner = 1 channel. Some tuners are hybrid or dual tuner capable which means they can handle multiple inputs (i.e. 1 ATSC signal and 1 NTSC signal), but...

Thing is awesome. Crystal clear video playback including Blu-ray. Audio is killer!
Bit on the pricey side, but I was able to ditch my AVR (Denon 2807).
Only drawback is that...

About 1.5 years ago, I went with Plasma for my HT because it looks so dang good and you could not get an LCD in the same size for the money. I still think Plasmas have a slightly higher picture quality, though LCD is rapidly catching up.
Today, it would be a harder decision to make. You can...
