I recently got the bare bones version and I agree with you that it sounds very flat in a 2 speaker setup. However, music becomes spectacular on this card with my Logitech Z-5500 5.1 setup, using the surround and crystalizer settings.

I'm a little puzzled by the award also. This ASUS card is not a good value by any stretch of the imagination. For $245 you can get a GTX 470 on a good day.
[H] is a great team and put up a hell of a fight, more than anyone really expected. Both teams have increased production dramatically and I don't see how that can be anything but a good thing.
That being said, it's a little disappointing to see the sour grapes on the part of a few individuals...
Do not be overconfident. Everything that has unfolded, and also folded, has done so according to my design. Soon, it will be October 1st, and the masses will partake of the extremely sinister EVGA Bucks program, and you will be unable to repel firepower of that magnitude.
I think the 1 card vs. 2 cards for multi-monitor gaming is a bit of a red herring. Even a 5870 is extremely marginal in terms of performance for driving that resolution with an acceptable level of details. Most people running 3 monitors will have SLI or Crossfire for the sake of actual usability.
